Do I have a good chance to see hippos in Tanzania? Is the upgrade between camping and accommodate worth it? I have travelled with Acacia in September 2017 and did the participated camping tour, I want to upgrade but is the 3k worth it? And if I want to stay in Zanzibar for 3 days at the end, would that be an issue and is it hard to make your way to the airport on your own and is it safe?

Seeing hippos - Tanzania - almost a certainty; also in Kenya, in the Masai Mara (which is the northern extension of the Serengeti). Upgrade to Accommodated. Well.. there are several points to note, which you can see in the dossier: In several places accommodation is the same whether you book camping or accommodated: (i) in Nairobi; (ii) in the Masai Mara where all clients are in the hotel or t a pre erected camp with bedding; (iii) Serengeti/ Ngorongoro where everyone camps (even Accommodated); and (iv) on Zanzibar for the final 3 nights where everyone stays in the same hotels on the island. And then if you book 'camping' there may be the opportunity to upgrade locally, subject to availability. Zanzibar.. You can choose to end your tour on Zanzibar (to stay on afterwards) instead of returning to Dar es Salaam on the final day. Simply tell your tour leader. Getting to Zanzibar airport is easy - there are taxis and some hotels run transfer services.

Gorilla Permits are subject to availability from the Bwindi Authorities - that is why we ask when making a booking to pay for the permit then - so we can secure your permit in advance. The trekking group is limited by numbers - they do not like large groups trekking but rather smaller ones. The Gorilla Trek may either take place on Day 6, 7 or 8.

It was well organised, the tents are spacious and in really good condition, you get supplied camping mats. The guide was amazing and very knowledgeable and cooked amazing meals.   I am definitely serious and looking into a tour for Africa in October, just not sure about which one. I want to finish in Zanzibar and stay behind, depending of $$, an extra 5-6 days on the beach and probably just fly out as it doesn't seem expensive and more convenient, because of this I don't know if I can suffer the camping part or I'll go the extra and pay for accommodation who seems a lot of extra $$$ for just a few nights and appears a tad over priced…dragging a sleeping bag doesn't appeal to me either to be honest. I know there is a sale on going at the moment but would it be a better sale later on? And about the food, if I do the accommodation, do I eat at the camp site or at the hotel/lodge? I did that kind of tour in 2017(camping) and doing the dishes, cooking and having chores isn't what I am looking for, if you could let me know about this so I can maybe look at a different tour?

  I can see that we have uploaded the tour dossier, which I hope was helpful in deciding if this is the right tour for you. I see the comment about your having done a group tour back in 2017... well this is a group tour too, we provide all camping equipment except a sleeping bag. We prepare meals within the group - the tour leader taking the lead but group members are asked to assist. In regard to staying longer on Zanzibar, this is fine - in fact it is quite common with clients who want to stay bon for a few days. Zanzibar has many (100s) of hotels of all budgets so you have a wide choice. We finish the tour with the ferry back to Dar es Salaam (the mainland) on the final day (which is a Friday) so any onward accommodation you wish to arrange would be from that evening. Getting to the airport on Zanzibar is not difficult - there are taxis and some hotels operate a transfer service.
