We’re an inquisitive team of creative problem solvers, tech wizards, and passionate travellers who work together to bring life-enriching touring experiences to the world. Our online marketplace has disrupted the travel industry and transformed the way in which tours are discovered and booked. When it comes to travel tech, not only are we the innovators - we’re the leaders, and we continue to make groundbreaking progress every day.

Our Culture

We’re a diverse team of nationalities, cultures, and languages, but there’s one thing which all of us have in common: the insatiable desire to be better than we were yesterday. It’s the pursuit of excellence which keeps us aiming high, reaching far, and achieving magnificent outcomes as we strive to be the best of the best in the world of travel tech.

We believe that the only limit to our success is our imagination, which is why we’re stock full of creative talent. We provide a laid back, comfortable environment where you can get your best work done, and operate with an open-door policy: Whether you’re stuck on a (seemingly) impossible Excel problem, or simply need someone to help you carry the beers around on a Friday afternoon, we’ll be there for you.

Ultimately, we really are a team, and we prefer to win as one, too.

A Day in the Life...

The TourRadar crew isn’t just about lines of code, creative marketing campaigns and connecting customers with life-enriching travel experiences. When you become part of our team, you’ll find that no two days are the same, and that our enthusiasm for great results is matched equally by our desire to have fun, both in and out of the office!

Darts and foosball help strengthen our hand-to-eye coordination, a useful skill when using a keyboard is part of your daily routine, and our team outings fly in the face of boredom: Instead of “Should we go for a pizza tonight?”, you’ll hear “The train leaves in 10 minutes for wakeboarding/paintball/rock climbing/bubble soccer!”

One thing we’ll always remember is what got us here in the first place, and that’s our passion for travel. Each year, each member of the TourRadar crew gets to go on a FAM (familiarisation) trip somewhere around the world. Office exchanges are also encouraged, so you can live in another country and culture, gain international work experience, and have a perfectly reasonable excuse to visit Australia, Austria or Canada!

  • VP of Engineering

    Full time
    Vienna
    Austria

TourRadar is an early stage, venture backed marketplace disrupting a $50 billion industry. Revolutionizing how multi-day tours are compared and purchased, we provide travellers with a trusted online marketplace to find and book life-enriching experiences worldwide. Traditionally, these types of experiences have been predominately serviced offline by brick and mortar travel agents, but we recognize that it's time to move this industry online and capture global market share through digital reach. With over 35 different nationalities in our team and offices spread across Europe, North America and Australia, we work to deliver the best possible service and tour booking experience to our customers. Launched in 2010, we proudly produce everything in-house thanks to our exceptional internal talent and are now looking to scale our team.

We have achieved great success in building critical mass on both sides of the marketplace (operators and consumers) and momentum is accelerating.  We have recently raised a Series B to invest in the organisational and technical infrastructure required to support the next order of magnitude of scale.

    The Role:

We are now looking to appoint a VP of Engineering to lead technology and engineering as we embark upon the modernisation and internationalisation of the platform and product set. The original monolithic tech stack, which served well to prove the model, now needs to be re-architected for scale. The monolith needs to be broken-up, inflight, and transitioned to a microservices architecture hosted on public cloud that enables flexibility and pace in development.

Our mid-sized engineering team will need to triple in size over the next 12 months size in order to drive the transformation and growth that we anticipate and the VP of Engineering will need to manage this growth and structure a modern tech function broken into full stack feature-based sub teams.

Although we are already international in our B2B reach and B2C market, the consumer side is restricted to a sole language, English, and so predominantly the relevant markets of the UK, US, Australia, and Canada. There is a need to introduce multi-language capabilities to the platform in order to truly internationalise our marketplace. Understanding the complexity of this transition to a truly international product is a requirement of any future leader of technology for this global travel technology business.

There is a strong emphasis on company culture at TourRadar. Any successful candidate will need to bring an energy and proactive approach along with an affinity for travel. The spirit of adventure and exploration informs the business across all functions and binds the people within the organisation.

    Technical Ability

    • Computer Science / engineering graduate from a leading university.
    • Architecturally-minded, engineering leader.
    • Experience of designing web scale, microservices architectures on public cloud infrastructure, along with expertise in the architecture and integration of applications into existing web stacks without performance issues.
    • Experience of transitioning a monolith platform to a microservices architecture.
    • Ability to join technology to markets through product development.

    Industry

    • Technical/Engineering leadership in a travel tech, marketplace/aggregator, or eCommerce technology company with a developed logistics component.
    • Experience of B2B would also be an advantage, alongside experience of managing partnerships with service suppliers and partnerships from a technology standpoint.
    • Experience of broad based API integration and exposure to data science (ML / AI / NLP).
    • To have worked in a start-up environment, understanding the entrepreneurial nature of businesses at this stage.
    • An understanding of Venture Capital and/or Private Equity backed businesses is desirable.

    Leadership

    • Must be able to provide technical leadership to a highly technical team, earning their respect, whilst providing them with a defined technology roadmap.
    • Experience of building, leading, and scaling engineering and development teams. Ideally, with exposure to various structures including in-house, near-shore, and outsourcing.
    • Comfortable setting a technical product vision and taking ownership of technology choices.
    • Excellent communicator and issue resolver.
    • Well versed in designing feature based, autonomous engineering/UX teams with meshed DevOps.
    • Able to interface with founders, investors and corporate stakeholders.
    • Can articulate technology vision and delivery strategy in a language that enables discussion with a technical and non-technical audiences.

    What can you expect?
