What's the typical length of tours starting in Johannesburg to Victoria Falls?

Tours connecting these two iconic destinations take between 7 and 15 days with most travelers choosing either week-long or two-week trips. Timeline Travel DMC runs a concentrated 7-day wildlife tour while Collette offers a more expansive 15-day journey that includes stays at upscale properties like The Wallow in Victoria Falls and Chobe Marina Lodge. According to a recent TourRadar traveler: "The best trip EVER. Three nights in every place was perfect as we were not rushed to go from one place to the other."

What wildlife can I expect to see between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls?

The route presents excellent opportunities to spot the Big Five in Kruger National Park along with frequent sightings of hippos and crocodiles near the Zambezi River. Chobe National Park which is often part of these itineraries holds the largest concentration of elephants in Africa. One TourRadar traveler recently reported: "Between Kruger and Victoria Falls we saw over 40 elephants countless hippos and even a leopard lounging in a tree."

What are the most common starting points for tours in Johannesburg?

Tours typically depart from OR Tambo International Airport or hotels in the Rosebank and Sandton districts. Common meeting points include the Peermont D'oreale Grande Hotel near the airport and Holiday Inn Rosebank in central Johannesburg. A TourRadar traveler shared their experience: "The pickup from OR Tambo was seamless and our guide was waiting for us with clear signage."

What's the best time of year to visit Victoria Falls from Johannesburg?

The dry season from June through August offers optimal viewing conditions with moderate water levels at Victoria Falls. February to May brings peak water flow which can limit visibility while November and December see minimal water levels. According to a TourRadar traveler: "We visited in July and had perfect viewing conditions at the falls with rainbow formations visible in the morning light."

How much spending money should I budget for a Johannesburg to Victoria Falls tour?

Daily expenses of $100-150 cover most meals not included optional activities and souvenirs. Popular add-ons include Victoria Falls entrance fees ($30-50) helicopter flights ($150-280) and sunset cruises ($45-75). As one TourRadar traveler suggests: "Budget extra for the helicopter flight over Victoria Falls - it's expensive at 150 USD but absolutely worth it for the incredible aerial views."

What accommodation options are available on these tours?

Lodging ranges from high-end safari lodges to well-appointed hotels. Most tours use properties like The Kingdom Hotel or A'Zambezi River Lodge in Victoria Falls and Mdluli Safari Lodge near Kruger. A TourRadar traveler shared this insight: "We loved our stay at Victoria Falls Safari Lodge - the rooms had amazing views of the waterhole where we could watch wildlife from our balcony."
