  • J

    Joel

    Asked on July 29th, 2025

would it be in locations with proper defecating / toileting facilities ? Because i read some other Africa tour vendors, they mostly "wild camp" anywhere, which I suppose wouldn't have proper toileting facilities, meaning we find one corner and dig a hole ! what about yours ? proper camp site with toiletting facilities ?

    • Oasis OverlandOperatorWritten July 2025

The route from Nairobi to Johannesburg is a well established tourist route. Even though we advertise this trip as 80% camping and 20% in basic hotels and hostels, the campsites will mostly be established camp grounds with bathroom facilities and even swimming pools in some places! There will be a couple of bush camps, but not many of these on the trip you selected. Sometimes we sleep in fixed campsites that have shared washing/toilet facilities, but we also do a fair bit of bush camping where we set up entirely on our own, and you will be toileting 'al-fresco'.

  • S

    Steven

    Asked on July 18th, 2025

Approximately how much cash will I need for expenses on the 94-day Nairobi-Johannesburg tour (payment for visits to nature parks, waterfalls, etc.)?

    Payments
    Price / Availability
    • Oasis OverlandOperatorWritten July 2025

From past trips and traveller feedback £100 to £145 per week should cover costs such as some meals out (on average 2 per day are supplied), soft drinks and beers, email & communications, souvenirs and other general spending. Personal spending habits & budgets differ greatly from person to person.

      Steven

      TravelerWritten July 2025

What is meant by local payment?

    • Oasis OverlandOperatorWritten July 2025

Local Payment is part of your overall trip payment and is the most cost effective and practical way to get hard currency to Africa to pay for a variety of your day to day local costs (i.e. all meals prepared by the group, campsite/hostel fees, gas, and certain activities listed on the trip page) which cannot be pre-paid from the UK. It is a guaranteed amount, set before your trip departs, and unlike 'group kitty' systems we will not ask you to contribute more once the trip is underway.
