All our Adventure tours are sold on a sharing-basis. Meaning that solo clients will share a room/tent with a fellow solo passenger of the same gender. No single supplements are applicable.

What is the longest driving day between stops on 43 day trip?

The longest drive is estimated at around 11-12 hours.. but it can - and does - vary with road conditions, traffic, number of stops and size of group etc.

Is it possible to book for a single room/tent?

we do not offer single tent accommodation on this tour. Accommodation is in twin share tents sharing with another passenger of the same sex. If we have an odd number of men and women then someone will have a tent to him/ herself - but this is worked out amongst the group not promised beforehand.

Is there a stop where we could do a hot air balloon excursion over the plains of animals?

Are there any orphanages for giraffe, rhino, etc along this route that we could visit? My love is for giraffes so this would be my #1 wish to see many of:).

Will the tour bus accommodate our luggage needs for this tour? We have a medium suitcase each and a carry on suitcase each on our plane flight which we will bring on our tour. We also have 2 CPAPS machine for medical use.

What is the compartment size that accommodates our luggage? What is the weight allowed per person and number of pieces of luggage allowed on the bus? Are there lockers as well as a luggage compartment under the tour bus?

do you have pictures of the 3 types of sleeping situations - twin share accommodations, preerected en suite tented camp, bush camping. i will pass on the 11 km hike. can i do that? what does the top of dune 45 hike entail? how long are other hikes?

On tour we make use of rustic twin share accommodation with facilities and twin share tents with sleeping bag, pillow, and mattress. In most cases rooms are en-suite, but from time to time some rooms may be shared facilities. We mainly use accommodation, which usually have reasonable wash and shower facilities, electricity points and sometimes even a small shop, bar, or swimming pool. The 11km Livingstonia Hike in Malawi is an optional activity, you are welcome to give it a miss. As for the climb up Dune 45, again up to you if you want to do it, I would encourage it if you are able to do it as the views from the top are pretty spectacular. Of course you are welcome to go as far up as you are comfortable or abled to. There are various walks throughout the tour, they are generally slow paced and your guides will brief the group every night on the next day's excursions. If you feel the need, you are welcome to opt out of any walks.

How much luggage would be necessary on a tour like this, would it be 1 suitcase per person. What type of accommodation. Names of hotels etc.

Most people bring along a backpack (or other soft bag, no hard cases allowed) and a smaller day bag. Keep to airline restriction (20kg or less). Accommodations details are included in the tour dossier.

What is the Adventure Pass?

Every Acacia Overland tour has an Adventure Pass which is paid to your tour leader in Africa at the beginning of the tour (or pre-paid by arrangement prior to your tour). This is separate and in addition to the Tour Price, and covers selected park entries, activities and excursions along the way where payment goes directly to the supplier to ensure local suppliers benefit directly from the income.

While some of the days were very long being on the road for over 9500kms really afforded a view of Africa the luxury safari goer doesn’t get to see. Saw the big five in copious numbers. This tour was absolutely incredible from the start to the end. Went on the 43 day tour from Kenya to Cape Town and the trip covered everything possible. The tour guide Rachel and truck driver Sam were brilliant, they had so much knowledge and looked after us all - kept us fed very well! All the campsites were better than my expectations, they were cleans, had bars at most of them and occasionally even a pool. I would happily book again with Acacia to do another tour and also highly recommend them to anyone considering travelling around Africa! Show more

Tony and Sam were most excellent hosts, very knowledgable and informative.The tour was, in the end, a very life changing experience that I will treasure forever.The scenery, the animals, the people along the way were fantastic. It is hard to choose what was my favourite part of the tour, but a few notables would be Zanzibar, Victoria falls,Masaai Mara, Serengetti, The Crater, Namibia. Among individual camping area's Elephant Sands, Canyon Roadhouse, Kande Beach stand out in my mind.Again THANKS to Sam and Tony for making the trip a very warm and pleasurable experience, the meals that these guys can cook up on a 2 burner campstove are amazing, especially Tony's BBQ ribs, they are to die for.Show more

We were the oldest on this tour (but the youngest at heart)! We could not have been in better hands taking us through the 7 African countries. Our guide was a great cook and made our lives easier for that. She was knowledgeable about the countries, always giving us the facts before we arrived. She assisted with currency exchange, where to shop for the best deals, etc. Our days were full, with lots of them starting at 5:00 a.m. I will forever remember the white water rafting on the Zambezi River and quading on the sand dunes in Swakopmund. The safari's were awesome and I highly recommend the game walk out of Livingstone. It is a surreal feeling to be so close to the animals - the white rhinos especially! I would do this again in a heartbeat! We hope to return to Namibia and do the coast around Cape Town - a reason to return! There were a few issues on our trip which I believe our guide worked very hard to resolve. We had a truck roll over on the Serengeti safari, and 2 very unhappy couples to deal with. I would ask that Acacia bring their tents up to better condition and match poles to tents (same bag numbers). All this aside I would still recommend Acacia for this type of adventure trip. We have traveled for 38 years and I will go out on a limb and say this trip was rated in our top 5!! Well done Sam, you managed to get a group of 24, all having different needs and expectations, safely to Cape Town.Show more

I'd like to express my gratitude for the experience I had with Acacia Africa earlier this year on a tour from Nairobi to Cape Town led by Prosper and Khumbu. The tour was truly life changing for me and the professionalism and personalities of the tour leader and driver were a big part of this. At all times I found Prosper and Khumbu to be fun, entertaining, helpful and accomodating. They're outstanding attitudes rubbed off on myself and my fellow voyagers, allowing us all to get the most out of our trip. I would also like to thank the whole of Acacia Africa for the smooth journey I experienced. I am sure that there is a mountain of behind-the-scenes work being done for each of these trips. The fact that our most noticeable hiccups were flat tyres reflects very well on the professionalism of everyone involved.   In Nairobi, Kenya there is a Giraffe Centre & the Elephant Orphanage. I would suggest staying in Nairobi for a few extra days before the tour starts in order to visit these places - well worth it!

  Are there any tour stops where we can arrange a hot air balloon ride? Are there 3 nights where there is no electricity? Is there a toilet on the bus? We have a health condition. Is there anyway we may have a list of the hotel accommodations?

  Each client has their own locker: Height 280mm x Width 550mm x Depth 700mm. Under floor storage is for tents and camping equipment, not personal belongings. Power may not be guaranteed overnight in remote areas. 3 nights without power - one in Namibia, two in Serengeti and Ngorongoro. No toilet on the truck. Comfort breaks at regular intervals using public facilities. Scenic flights possible in Masai Mara, Serengeti, Victoria Falls and Namibia.

  Are we able to bring plastic bags for our ostomy supplies through the airport? Can we get a doctor's note to help with this?

do you have pictures of the 3 types of sleeping situations - twin share accommodations, preerected en suite tented camp, bush camping. i will pass on the 11 km hike. can i do that? what does the top of dune 45 hike entail? how long are other hikes?

  On tour we make use of rustic twin share accommodation with facilities and twin share tents with sleeping bag, pillow, and mattress. In most cases rooms are en-suite, but from time to time some rooms may be shared facilities. We mainly use accommodation, which usually have reasonable wash and shower facilities, electricity points and sometimes even a small shop, bar, or swimming pool. The 11km Livingstonia Hike in Malawi is an optional activity, you are welcome to give it a miss. As for the climb up Dune 45, again up to you if you want to do it, I would encourage it if you are able to do it as the views from the top are pretty spectacular. Of course you are welcome to go as far up as you are comfortable or abled to. There are various walks throughout the tour, they are generally slow paced and your guides will brief the group every night on the next day's excursions. If you feel the need, you are welcome to opt out of any walks.
