We do offer a Gorilla Trek on this tour. This is an optional activity and the permit for this is currently priced at £705 GBP.

Which airports do I need to fly into and out of?

For the Taste of Africa trip, the closest international airport to Jinja (where this tour starts) is Entebbe in Uganda. At the end of this tour, you will find it most convinient to fly out of either Zanzibar Island or Dar Es Salaam, both of which are international airports.

A few questions about the last part of the tour. Does that mean that you have the choice to end the tour at Dar Es Salaam? What activities are included on day 22? Is the ferry to Zanzibar included regardless of whether you buy the optional extra or not?

Yes there is the option to end the tour in Dar es Salaam. On day 22 the tour gets into Dar es Salaam, this is a travel day, no activities are included. Usually the truck gets in some time in the afternoon and that night we camp at the beach close to the city. The next day those who have chosen to join the excursion then travel to the island. The ferry to zanzibar is not included, but if you would like to make your own arrangements on Zanzibar then we can also book just the one way ferry for you. You would then travel with the group to the island and do your own thing from there. The cost for the one way ferry is GBP 35. You can let us know this when you book the tour and payment is made directly to us at Absolute Africa.

With all overland tours, such as the Taste of Africa, there are several areas you will want to consider when budgeting. A typical budget for this tour would be as follows: The price of the safari: £1,350 and The Local Payment payable on Day One to your trip leader: 550 USD. These costs together cover all the items listed under "What's Included" on the trip page. Spending money: 545 - 650 USD. Optional Excursions: 220 - 500 USD. Visas: 100 - 200 USD depending on nationality. Apart from the above costs remember you also then need to budget for the following: • Airfares • Insurance • Vaccinations • Pre and Post Safari Costs • Personal equipment like a sleeping bag and small personal medical kit.

Is there any possibility on that trip to have an alternative accommodation instead of camping? Like a modest cottage or similar? For me no problem camping, but she would prefer to have a 'real bed'.

All our tours are mainly camping with the occasional dorm stay, on this tour we stay in dorms at the gorillas but everywhere else it's camping. It is possible to upgrade to a room at most of the campsites, but at one or two there is only the camping option. It is not possible to prebook rooms, this would need to be done on the spot at each campsite and is subject to availability. Upgrades cost anywhere from U$5 to U$100 per night depending on the campsite and type of room, on average it is about U$20 to upgrade.

What are the optional excursions?

The tour operator has advised that additional optional excursions available for this tour are on a request basis and can be organised once on the tour.

It’s been one week since I left the group who are heading to Cape Town. And I wanted to share why I thought it was so good. The company itself were in good communication with me and so I felt positive based on previous reviews and speaking to them. The guide we had was fantastic. As was the driver. Wycliffe and Steve were very popular, so helpful, knew their shit, made us feel very safe and relaxed and were a joy to have around. Excellent staff. Excellent company and would highly recommend. I joined in Jinja, and had three weeks. Waking up to the sounds of nature all around you every morning helps you feel connected to nature and it’s such a lovely way of waking up. The sounds and smells of the African bush. Sometimes it was the sounds of goats, birds, lots of birds, call to prayer, rain, daily living, the breakfast being cooked, laughter of some of the group. All these sounds were a lovely alarm clock. Every day was different. Looking at beautiful country side from the truck, seeing beautiful people living their lives. All this amongst a connection with the fellow people on the bus. Learning about their lives, interests and experiences. I liked to understand Why we all chose to be on this trip and how we were all experiencing it. On our group people always helped each other, like setting up tents, cooking, offering me a snack, some suncream, sharing things. I felt we looked out for each other. So there was a connection to Nature, to people, good conversations, lovely shared experiences and the once in a lifetime sights. Having a coffee with a lion eating a zebra in Ngorogoro crater was a morning !! Overall the trip was perfect, and left me feeling grateful, emotional and happy. Payment information
- For any tour departing before July 5th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after July 5th, 2026, a minimum payment of 20% is required to confirm your booking with Absolute Africa. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
