  • R

    Ryan

    Asked on August 7th, 2025

Can you tell me the flights I'd have to book to do this tour

    Flights / Transfers
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten August 2025

This tour starts on the 3rd in the late afternoon at Nile River Explorers camp in Jinja, Uganda. The truck you will be joining is travelling from Kenya and arrives in the afternoon so you can arrive any time that day and meet the group. Jinja is around 3 hours drive from Entebbe International Airport and we can assist with an airport transfer if you wish. This is approx 90 USD payable out in Africa. Ideally you would then want to arrive into Entebbe by early afternoon so that you don't arrive too late to camp and get to meet everyone and have dinner together that first night. If you do find a later flight we can though still accommodate, or if you fly into Entebbe on the 2nd September you can transfer to Jinja and we can assist with a booking for a dorm bed or room at Nile River Explorers for you for the night. Alternatively if you arrive later on the 2nd and don't want to do the drive to Jinja straight away, you can book into a hotel close to the airport for the night and we can arrange a transfer to collect you from there and take you out to Jinja the next day. The Rivers of Africa tour finishes in Victoria Falls where we spend the last three nights. The final night is the 17th October and that night is included in the tour price. You can then book flights out of Victoria Falls International airport, Zimbabwe, any time on the 18th October (or from Livingstone, Zambia if you prefer).

why i wanted to ask if you guys have vegan or vegetarian options for the meals

We can certainly cater for vegetarians and vegans, just mention this when you book and then we will let the tourleader know so he/she can take this into account for the meal planning.

      TravelerWritten July 2022

i was wondering if any of the tours have the zanzibar trips included in their prices, if not what are the 3 nights lodging supposed to be? also i wanted to know the difference between the Absolute safari vs the Gorillas to Capetown tours, because they have different prices and all

    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten July 2022

The tours that include the Zanzibar excursion cost within the main price of the tour are the 11-day Maasai and Migration and the Reverse Maasai and Migration, and the Zanzibar to Gorillas tour. For all the other tours, you pre pay for the Zanzibar arrangements in GBP before departing for Africa and so you don't need to carry extra money out for this. Just add £295 onto the tour cost (or £265 if you book a tour which finishes on Zanzibar and wish to fly directly off Zanzibar and not take the return ferry to the mainland) to get an idea of how much the trip + Zanzibar will cost all together.

    Asked on February 19th, 2016

What is the best time to view the migration?

    Other
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten February 2016

The prime time to visit the Serengeti in Tanzania is usually regarded as being from late November through to March when the big herds of wildebeest, Thomson’s gazelle and zebra head on to the southern plains of the Serengeti.

To get the best viewing on the other hand in Kenya's Masai Mara July through to September are usually regarded as the best months.

  • L

    Liz

    Asked on February 15th, 2016

How much will this tour really cost me?

    Price / Availability
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten February 2016

The costs to consider when travelling overland are:

      Safari price & Local payment,
      Optional excursions,
      Personal spending money,
      Visas.

We are always very transparent about what a tour will cost and are happy to go through personal, tailored budgets to give you a very realistic idea of what you will spend on your tour - whether you are an adrenaline junkie, souvenir-shopaholic or travelling on a shoestring…

  • J

    Judy

    Asked on February 15th, 2016

    What is the local payment?

    Other
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten February 2016

The local payment is a separate payment from the initial price you pay before you leave. If a local payment is required it will be shown with the trip price. This second payment is made in Africa at the start of your trip. It is payable in USD. The local payment provides us with the means for expenses that need to be paid in cash to local businesses en route to be arranged in the most cost effective manner possible, a saving we can then pass on to you. It also means we can operate in a way that directly supports local businesses and wildlife authorities as we travel. Local Payment will not be changed once you have booked your travel arrangements.
