  Accommodation was appalling The communication between guides/drivers did not exist. Drivers were changed daily and at the end of each day no one knew pick up time or firm destination. Tanzanian company Avtec were a seamless with lots of time wasted ferrying client to and from Accommodation. We felt like luggage.   To continue: THE TANZANIA SIDE, WAS TOTALLY A DIFFERENT STORY. After finishing the Kenya Safari, we were transferred to Tanzania. The first night we stayed in Arusha. 1. We thought the Tanzania Safari Tour would be the same as the Kenya one, which is the Kenya company has the itinerary set up, the Tanzanian driver just does the job. However it is NOT! It is COMPLETELY REPROGRAMMED by the Tanzania subcontracted party. 2. It is NOT a so-called TOUR, it's a messily arranged “daily activity”. We were just one of the numbers being put in different vehicles with different people, who had overlapping itineraries. The most ridiculous example, the morning we departed Serengeti (to Ngorongoro), the driver received a phone call, to pick up 3 more passengers, all going to Ngorongoro. Two hours were wasted picking up these extras. At the end of the day, three hours to drop everyone off in different camps. We were scheduled to arrive at 5PM - we eventually arrived at 9PM. A miserable situation! 3. Very poor communications. Nobody has informed us that the Tanzania trip is NOT based on the itineraries the Kenya hosting company provided to us. Nobody has informed us we will have to change to different vehicles with different people on a random basis. All accommodations documented on Kenya company’s itinerary pre departure were changed as well. 4. Tanzanian sub contractor did NOT pre book accommodation. Instead, once the “Numbers” were confirmed, they started booking, just a few days before. This means choices were limited. We paid the equivalent of over U$300 a night for accommodations. In Arusha, they put us in a super budget U$25 a night hotel, in which the power went off, the water pump broke, and there was no water. We had to use bucket water to clean up and run the toilet. This was disgraceful treatment and completely unacceptable. The company took our money and profited it. 4. NO pre payments for national park admissions. (... considering we have booked and paid so in advance) - They paid admission on the day. In case they were adding travellers in and out on a daily basis. The day departing Serengeti, getting into Ngorongoro (just next door). We were delayed for almost 5 hours due to non-payment made beforehand for Ngorongoro fees. Terrible organising and arrangements! 5. We realised the Tour is based on a "subcontract" basis, particularly on the Tanzania side. We purchased our Tour from Tourradar. The actual operating agent is based at Nairobi. The Kenya tour was operated by the Kenya agent in a rather professional way. Everybody got picked up and met in the Nairobi city area and did the entire 6 days 5 nights tour with one itinerary and one driver/vehicle. However in Tanzania, we felt like so many “hands” on the jobs, subcontracting to one after another on different days. The clients were treated just like NUMBERS FOR REVENUE, Messy, changeable, uncertain, random arrangements, really let the travel experience down! Drivers we met in the mornings for new destinations in Tanzania, they seemed they were not sure whom to pick up. It was NOT nice at all. We rate Tanzania Safari 5 out of 10 Of which: Tour arrangements/organising = 1 out of 10; however Driver, hotel staff, beautiful national parks and some accommodations = 9 out of 10 We still have some “Positives” for Tanzania. 1. The Driver for Serengeti and Ngorongoro, Steve. He is wonderful. The poor arrangements were not made by him, but he was the one who bore all the pressures on site facing the clients. After all those extra hours of work, he still kept his cool, never had any words of complaints… He is an experienced driver with very good English competency. 2. The workers at Parachichi Hotel in Arusha. They were great. Especially the boy who does the night shift (couldn’t remember his name). He saw us getting quite upset with the hotel situation, he tried his best to help us, always smiling to us. 3. Other than the hotel in Arusha, all other accommodations for Tanzania Safari that the Tanzanian subcontractor changed for us, Ngare Lodge (near Lake Manyara), Serengeti Wild Camp, Ngorongoro Wild Camp, we were happy about them. (It might be because we made complaints at Arusha???) 4. The experiences in Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara were all great. Just Tarangire National Park was a bit of a waste of time.Show more

  The Reviews will be separated in TWO parts: Kenya and Tanzania, respectively. Kenya Safari: We joined the Tour of “12 Day Best of Kenya and Tanzania Circuit Group Safari” through Tourradar. Starting and ending in Nairobi, 6 days in Kenya, 6 days in Tanzania. Initially it was a camping tour. We paid an extra U$1860 in accommodation upgrades to midrange lodges/advanced tents. The local company hosting the Tour is Eagle Pam Expeditions and Travel Ltd. It is based at Nairobi Kenya. The six day Safari tour at Kenya was tremendous. The overall rating we’d like to mark for the Kenya tour is 8 of 10. Our driver Joshua was fantastic, knowledgeable, great at finding animals, perfectly pacing the Safari. Some "negatives" for Kenya - some accommodation issues: 1. AA Lodge at Amboseli was terrible. We stayed for 2 nights there. Its location was good, you can see Mt Kilimanjaro from your room. That is probably the only highlight. The services of this lodge are virtually zero. No cleaning, no emptying trash bin, no changing towels for the room. The restaurant is even worse. The food choice was tiny. Food quality was below average. It was basic Indian food and fruit, for USD313 a night (online price), that was a rort. 2. The Nairobi hotel we were arranged to stay was, La Maison Royale South C. The hotel itself is reasonable. The hotel restaurant at the top level was fine. But the location is poor. The surrounding environment was pretty rough. As the newly arrived travellers, we couldn’t go anywhere. The pick up point of the Safari was in the CBD area. So the ONLY reason that we had to stay in the South C area was - the Cost is Cheaper! We’d suggest the Tour company put the travellers in the CBD hotels. Even if it costs more, I think people would be happy to pay for it! THE TANZANIA SIDE, WAS TOTALLY A DIFFERENT STORY. To be continued.....Show more
