What people love about Jeep & 4WD Tours
- Natural Wonder Oman
The GidOman 14 day Oman tour as a great way to see and experience Oman. Wonderful selections of hotels and a very enjoyable night of camping on the beach. Visits to the various different areas of Oman. Comfortable transportation. The tour guide, Aziz helped us see understand and enjoy the various areas and sites the tour visited. Nice relaxed pace of travel. Highly recommend this tour.
- Discover Sri Lanka Beauty
I visited in December 2019. It was a great view of a beautiful lush green country. The people are so friendly and helpful. I will start from the beginning with our driver Asky. He was a perfect match for me and my trip - he was helpful, friendly and knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble for him. He chose some amazing places to eat and some places we would never have eaten in without his recommendations - so glad we did as it added to my cultural experience of Sri Lanka. He also got up extra early and climbed a rock/mini mountain with me to watch the sunrise. Thank you for doing that. The hotel choices given by the company were very good. Some were big hotels and some small family run places but they were all unique and suited me. There was a place up the mountains through all the tea plantations (rained a lot up there) that was really nice and had a little country pub. It was very special. The guides we had were excellent - driver excellent! Great company to travel Sri Lanka.
- Classic Namibia 12 Days DEPARTING SATURDAYS **Sustainable Approach to Travel
We visited a huge amount of sites in Namibia without feeling time pressured. Our leader and driver, Erastus and Michael worked so hard and succeeded making the trip a pleasure for us all. This tour of Namibia is wonderful and I feel as though saw the best of this beautiful country. We learned a lot about the country as we toured.
What our customers ask about Jeep & 4wd Tours & Trips
What wildlife viewing opportunities are possible from 4x4 vehicles?
You'll get amazingly close to Africa's wildlife from a 4x4 safari vehicle. In the Serengeti, you can easily spot the Big Five - lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo. One TourRadar traveler noted: "The elevated position in the 4x4 gave us incredible views of a pride of lions just meters away." When you visit places like Ngorongoro Crater Lodge, the morning drives take you right into the heart of the action, where you can see over 25,000 animals including zebras, wildebeest, and hippos going about their daily life.
How many hours per day are typically spent in the 4x4 vehicle?
You'll usually spend between 4 to 8 hours a day in the vehicle, split into morning and afternoon drives. In Kruger National Park, for example, morning drives start at sunrise around 6am and last 3-4 hours. Then you'll head out again from 3:30-6:30pm for the afternoon session. One TourRadar traveler explained: "While we had long days in the vehicle tracking wildlife, our guide ensured regular stops at picturesque spots like those near Serengeti Sopa Lodge for stretching and photography."
What type of accommodations can I expect on a 4WD tour?
Your accommodation options range from nice lodges to permanent tented camps and wilderness camping. When you're in Tanzania's Serengeti, you can stay at places like the Batonka Guest Lodge with its swimming pools and big rooms. In Botswana, you might find yourself at unique spots like the Buffelsdrift Luxury Lodge where you can watch animals at nearby waterholes. As one TourRadar traveler put it: "The tent camping at Buffelsdrift game reserve was top notch - getting to fall asleep to the sounds of elephants nearby was incredible."
When is the best time to book a 4WD safari tour?
It really depends on where you're going. For East Africa safaris in Kenya and Tanzania, most people go from July to October to see the Great Migration, or January to February for the calving season. If you're heading to Botswana, plan for May through October when the skies are clear and animals gather near water sources. One TourRadar traveler shared: "We saw the wildebeest migration in September which was absolutely spectacular - timing is everything for these natural events."
What kind of meals are provided during 4WD safaris?
Most tours include all your meals, freshly prepared each day. In Botswana camps, you'll have three meals a day plus snacks, all made by skilled chefs. Some Kenya tours even let you try local dishes as part of the experience. Here's what one TourRadar traveler said: "The camp chef Francis was amazing - preparing incredible meals even in remote locations. We had everything from traditional African dishes to familiar western options."
What wildlife viewing experiences can I expect?
You'll have plenty of chances to see Africa's Big Five - lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo - plus lots of other animals. In Tanzania's Serengeti, you can watch the Great Migration, while Botswana's Chobe National Park is the place to see huge herds of elephants. One TourRadar traveler mentioned: "In just four days we saw all of the Big Five plus countless other animals in their natural habitat - truly incredible."
What's the best time of year for a 4WD tour?
The best time varies by location. For Southern Africa safaris, try the dry winter months from May to October, when animals gather around water sources. If you're going to Jordan's Wadi Rum, spring (March-May) or fall (September-November) are perfect with temperatures between 68-77°F (20-25°C). Just avoid summer when it can get really hot, over 104°F (40°C).
