I'm wondering about the fitness level required for this trip. I'm not particularly well trained and from a country without mountains, is low fitness level also suitable for me? And on your own website I only see a luxury tour that is nearly twice as expensive, does this tour still run?

This journey does require a moderate level of fitness, mainly due to some walking on uneven terrain and light hikes. However, we regularly welcome guests who are not mountain-trained and who come from countries without mountains, so this is absolutely not unusual. If you feel the itinerary may be a bit challenging, we can customize it slightly to make it easier and more comfortable for you. For example, we can remove Fairy Meadows from the program, which significantly reduces the physical effort while still keeping the journey scenic, meaningful, and enjoyable. With this customization, the price would be USD 2,500, and the journey would be a guaranteed departure, even for a single traveller. Regarding the tour on our website, the higher-priced option you saw is a luxury version with upgraded accommodations and services, which explains the difference in cost. This journey still runs regularly and offers a wonderful experience with good comfort, just without the luxury upgrades.

Are you running the tour on those dates? What time do you get back to Islamabad on January 4? I'm 72 how much trekking is there? I'm from the USA, do I need a visa?

Yes, we can arrange the tour for you from December 26th to January 4th. Since it will be winter, some parts of the original itinerary may not be accessible, but we can happily customize the plan for you. Most likely, it will be arranged as a private tour, and the additional cost for making it fully private would be USD 500. To visit Pakistan you will need a visa and you can apply online for it.

Is December a good time to visit Pakistan and does your tour operate during that time? Is there en suite bathrooms or if they're shared?

Tours can be arranged anytime of the year. December is possible—while the north is cold, hotels will be the best and coziest options. December is not a touristy month, which works in your favour: quieter roads, peaceful landscapes, and a more personal experience. The rooms do have attached bathrooms, and we will arrange premium options wherever available.

The bus typically arrives in Islamabad on the last day of the tour by 6:00pm, depending on road conditions and weather. We recommend booking a return flight later in the evening or the following day to allow for any unexpected delays.

Private tours for one person generally cost around USD 3000. For group tours, prices may range from USD 2100 for a maximum 2-3 pax, to USD 2400 for mainly hiking tours with a maximum group size of 2.

What are the essential clothing items for the hike to Fairy Meadows?

The area is colder mainly in the evening, hence a light jacket is recommended.

whats the temperature and weather to expect in the end of march- early april? since i am travelling during Eid, would this change travel plans eg: places would be closed etc?

The temperature by the end of March and early April in Gilgit Baltistan region is in average 15-20 degree centigrade in the day time and nights are about 5-10 degree centigrade depending on which area you are in the North. Fairy Meadows is slightly colder than other areas. Normally there are no closers during Eid holidays..all the places mentioned in the itinerary would be accessible like in normal days.

Are there any requirements for minimum participants for the tours?

This is a group tour which requires a minimum of 3 participants. In case the number is not complete we will still arrange the trip by charging a single supplement.

But nothing prepared me for the majesty of the scenery, the challenge of driving precipitous mountain roads in the Hunza Valley and, above all, the warm hospitality of the people. Our tour was small and personal. Our local driver-guides made us feel like family friends, not travellers from Australia. Through them we learned about their country on a personal level and through them were prvileged to visit the homes of local mountain families - an experience never to be forgotten. This was my first time to visit Pakistan. I was curious to learn about the culture, landscapes and people of this country. I was pleasantly surprised to learn about the wonderful centuries-old heritage sites and their history. I had no real idea about their ancient cultures. They clearly hold a high respect for these symbols of their long history. All sites were well-kept and clean, the museums very well curated. I found the Pakistani people friendly, kind and genuinely warm and accepting of us foreigners. While the bus trip from Islamabad to the Hunza region through the Karakoram highway was rather long, it offered the opportunity to observe the regions and landscapes. The Hunza region completely captured my heart. I’ve done my share of traveling (to over 50 countries), but Hunza holds a certain magic that I had not experienced before. The combination of majestic snow-capped mountains, the river, poplar trees and apricot blossoms created a fairy-tale atmosphere. Everywhere you looked was a picture-perfect scene. But the additional ingredient that made the trip a memorable success was the Crossroads Adventure team. Their professionalism and attention to detail was not lost on us, and further, the care and warmth with which they attended to us was so special.   I saw Fairy Meadows has a horse riding option, and I love horses.. so I'd love to keep it. In terms of customization: I will be in Lahore before the tour, so if there's an option departing from Lahore that would be even better. If there's a big difference in price between a group trip or a customised trip, I don't mind coming to Islamabad though. Return flight can be either from Islamabad or Lahore, that doesn't matter much. It would be for early May.

  Regarding the starting point: Islamabad is the main gateway to Northern Pakistan, so the journey would need to start from Islamabad in any case. Even if you are in Lahore beforehand, the most practical and comfortable option would be to travel to Islamabad first (either by a short flight or by road), and we would begin the journey from there.
  
  In terms of departures and pricing, to operate this journey as a guaranteed group departure, we require a minimum of two participants.
  
  You may go ahead and book the group departure option now, and closer to the departure date we will inform you whether there are other participants confirmed or not.
  
  If, by that time, you remain the only participant, the journey can still be organized for you on a private basis, and in that case the price would be USD 2,500.
  
  Regarding meals:
  If you would like meals to be arranged and included throughout the journey, an additional USD 250 would apply.
  
  If you prefer to pay for your meals yourself during the trip, then this USD 250 would not apply.
  
  Early May is a very nice time to travel, with pleasant conditions and beautiful landscapes, and it works well for this journey.

  The temperature by the end of March and early April in Gilgit Baltistan region is in average 15-20 degree centigrade in the day time and nights are about 5-10 degree centigrade depending on which area you are in the North. Fairy Meadows is slightly colder than other areas. Normally there are no closers during Eid holidays..all the places mentioned in the itinerary would be accessible like in normal days.
