    Max

    Asked on February 24th, 2026

Can you accommodate a group of 5 (2 adults and 3 children aged 9, 12, and 15) for the tour?

    Age Range
    Group size
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten February 2026

Unfortunately our trips are not suited for younger children. Health and Safety issues can be of concern and the conditions can prove rough for a child living on the truck and in fairly basic campsites day to day. The routines are quite demanding and the pace not geared with the flexibility needed to cope with the specific needs of children. Do bear in mind that our groups are usually in their twenties and thirties as well so we can keep late nights, then be up early at times. We do offer a few short tours in Kenya for children over the age of 12, so if in the future you did want to look into these, please do let us know.

  • J

    Jess

    Asked on October 5th, 2025

Is the 'local payment' due for the gorilla treking permit or what is this fee for?

    Payments
    Tour Details
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten October 2025

The Local Payment is the second part of your total tour price and is paid in USD cash to your tour leader on day one of the trip. It covers all inclusions on the tour. This payment helps cover costs paid to local businesses along the route. The Gorilla Permit is a separate, optional payment currently priced at £705 GBP.

  • B

    Belinda

    Asked on February 5th, 2024

Is this package including mountain gorilla trekking? Which day will we meet with mountain gorillas?

    Tour Details
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten February 2024

Gorilla trekking is on 9th December. You need to purchase a gorilla permit, currently priced at £690 GBP, which may change before invoice.

  • C

    Carrie

    Asked on October 29th, 2022

Are gorilla permits available for these dates? Can we include the chimpanzee trek in the tour?

    Payments
    Tour Details
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten October 2022

Gorilla permits are held for all tour departures. We send out invoices around 4 months prior to departure. The chimpanzee trek is an optional activity in Kalinzu Forest in Uganda, costing 50 USD and payable once in Africa if you decide to do this excursion.

    • C

      Carrie

      TravelerWritten October 2022

Is there a chance to modify the 76 day tour to skip South Africa? We want a trip visiting Botswana and doing the Gorilla Trek. We are on our honeymoon and can offer social media documentation in exchange for a special price.

  • E

    Evelyn

    Asked on February 19th, 2016

When is the best time to view the migration?

    Other
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten February 2016

The prime time to visit the Serengeti in Tanzania is usually regarded as being from late November through to March when the big herds of wildebeest, Thomson’s gazelle and zebra head on to the southern plains of the Serengeti.

To get the best viewing on the other hand in Kenya's Masai Mara July through to September are usually regarded as the best months.

  • S

    Scott

    Asked on February 15th, 2016

    What is the local payment?

    Other
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten February 2016

The local payment is a separate payment from the initial price you pay before you leave. If a local payment is required it will be shown with the trip price. This second payment is made in Africa at the start of your trip. It is payable in USD. The local payment provides us with the means for expenses that need to be paid in cash to local businesses en route to be arranged in the most cost effective manner possible, a saving we can then pass on to you. It also means we can operate in a way that directly supports local businesses and wildlife authorities as we travel. Local Payment will not be changed once you have booked your travel arrangements.

  • L

    Lucy

    Asked on February 15th, 2016

How much will this tour really cost me?

    Price / Availability
    • Absolute AfricaOperatorWritten February 2016

The costs to consider when travelling overland are:

      Safari price & Local payment,
      Optional excursions,
      Personal spending money,
      Visas.

We are always very transparent about what a tour will cost and are happy to go through personal, tailored budgets to give you a very realistic idea of what you will spend on your tour - whether you are an adrenaline junkie, souvenir-shopaholic or travelling on a shoestring…
