Expat Explore's Balkan itinerary was well thought of. Their chosen local guides were expectacular! We saw beautiful places, learned a lot, enjoyed local cuisine, and more. Only 4 rooms had safes and only 1 worked. Beds were mostly hard. Our group was too big, 42 travelers and too hard to keep track of. There was an extreme amount of difficult walking. We were constantly dragging luggage around. Never again.Show moreTrip date: August 2023

Asked on October 31st, 2025Will this tour be suitable for person with walking canes

Traveler•Written October 2025How long is the stop at Pritvice Lakes. How far to walk. Is this trip very strenuous for 90 years old with walking canes.
Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written November 2025During the visit to Plitvice Lakes National Park, guests typically have a few hours to explore the area at a relaxed pace, depending on the group and conditions on the day. You'll spend one night accommodation there. The park is known for its stunning waterfalls and scenic walking trails, some of which include uneven terrain and gentle inclines. We do welcome elderly travellers, and many of our guests enjoy the experience comfortably. However, please note that the tour involves moderate walking and long travel days, and the Plitvice Lakes visit can be strenuous for those with limited mobility. You are very welcome to bring a small walking stick or cane, but unfortunately, larger mobility aids such as walkers, wheelchairs or rollators cannot be accommodated due to space and safety limitations on the coach. If you're comfortable walking at your own pace and can manage short inclines or uneven paths, you should still be able to enjoy much of the park's beauty. Your tour leader can also help suggest easier routes or rest points along the way.

Asked on October 17th, 2025Is there airport transfer?
Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written October 2025We do not offer airport transfers for this tour. You're welcome to arrange your own transportation to and from the airport. We can recommend a reliable service such as Welcome Pickups, which offers pre-booked transfers at fixed rates.

Traveler•Written October 2025Are all the dates in the brochure confirmed? If there a minimum number of pax required to form the tour? Once the tour group is formed, is it fixed with the same number of people or would the number of people and the group members keep changing? Day 1 starts at 1000. Does it mean that we have to check in the hotel the day before Day 1? For this 16-day tour there are 15 hotel nights provided. Are these hotels from day 1 to day 15? Can we stay in another hotel before joining the tour on day 1?
Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written October 2025All dates listed on our website and brochure are confirmed and open for booking unless marked as sold out. Each tour does have a minimum number of travelers required to operate, but our Balkan Explorer departures generally reach this number well in advance. Once a tour group is confirmed, the same group of travelers remains together throughout the entire journey. Day 1 typically begins at around 10:00 a.m., so we strongly recommend arriving the day before. The tour includes 15 hotel nights, covering accommodation from Day 1 to Day 15. You can book additional pre-tour accommodation at the same starting hotel (subject to availability).

Traveler•Written October 2025i have two friends who will be 80 years old next year. can they join this tour? they are healthy and have regular exercise and are regulars in group tours.
Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written October 2025We welcome travellers aged 10 and above, including seniors, as long as they are in good health and comfortable with the tour's physical requirements. This tour can be fast-paced, with walking tours on uneven or cobblestone surfaces, longer travel days by coach, and some hotels that may not have lifts, so travellers should be comfortable moving their luggage and walking at a steady pace.

Traveler•Written October 2025I found out that we need a visa to go to Serbia. But there is no Serbian Embassy or Consulate in my country! The website says it is not possible for us (Malaysians) to apply for the visa online but we have to do it at the Embassy. This is not possible for us as the Embassy is not in my country. We don't mind skipping Serbia for Day 12. Will Expat Explore Travel be able to make alternative arrangement for us for Day 12 after we leave Budapest, and re-join the tour group on Day 13 at Sofia in Bulgaria?
Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written October 2025As there is no Serbian Embassy or Consulate in Malaysia, the nearest Serbian diplomatic mission is in Jakarta, Indonesia. Expat Explore Travel isn't able to arrange alternative travel or accommodation outside of the group itinerary. If obtaining a visa is not possible, you would need to make your own arrangements for transport and accommodation between Budapest and Sofia, then rejoin the group on Day 13 in Sofia.

Asked on September 30th, 2025is there a group discount? wud good veggie food b provided where offered? All USA citizens; so there is no need for visa during this trip.
Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written October 2025We're pleased to offer a 2% discount for a confirmed group of 15 or more travellers. We're also pleased to offer vegetarian options throughout our adventures. While US passport holders generally don't require a visa for EU states, it's a good idea to check with the local embassy, considering upcoming changes such as ETIAS.

Traveler•Written October 2025From Houston, USA: We may arrive a day before so to be ready for the tour next day morning. Will you provide room for that night? Would you also provide transportation from and to to hotel and airport? All of us are vegetarian so our choice.
Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written October 2025We don't offer pre- or post-tour accommodation or airport transfers directly. However, once your booking is confirmed, we'll be happy to share helpful third-party links to assist you in arranging these on your own. Vegetarian options are available throughout the tour. You'll be able to specify your dietary preference later on in the Passenger Information Form, so our team and partners can make the necessary arrangements in advance.

Asked on September 1st, 2025we are doing the balkan explorer tour next year and I see their are optional excursions in the itinerary. It says we must book these before the tour, but it has no info on the excursion, price or how to sign up. Can you help?

Traveler•Written September 2025can we get the name of the hotel we are staying in Athens the first and last night. Need to make early preparations.
Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written September 2025Optional excursions can simply be booked during the tour with your tour leader. A few excursions do require pre-booking, but these can only be added to your booking once you are within 90 days of departure. Pre-booking is not yet possible but you can check which ones require pre-booking later. Your tour leader will go through all the available options with the group at the start of the tour, and you'll be able to confirm your interest and pay then, either in local cash or by credit card.

Asked on August 12th, 2025Can I get scandavian and this balkan tour together as solo traveller in September 2025 with single occupancy in hotel room? What's the total price, and if transport cover includes hotel stay and bread and breakfast. Does it include airport transfers or not? Please advise
Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written August 2025We do not have the capacity to offer customized tours. What we offer are tours with pre-set itineraries, destinations, duration and inclusions. However, we do have a Tour called the 'Best of Scandinavia & The Baltics' which may appeal to your travel plans.

Asked on August 11th, 2025is this still required? My year s insurance is a huge company but does not offer that.
Expat Explore TravelOperator•Written August 2025It's no longer necessary for your travel insurance to specifically include COVID-related isolation, but ideally your policy should cover trip cancellation and interruption, medical assistance and repatriation, and lost or damaged baggage to ensure you're well protected during your travels.
