Fantastic trip! Everything was as described, and organised perfectly by Manache our leader, and Steve our driver. We camped in amazing places, some next to National Parks or on beaches, some with swimming pools. On Zanzibar accommodation was perfect right on the beach. We saw all the animals you could hope for, including the gorillas and chimpanzees, Of course there were long dusty drives but you are in Africa. There was always plenty of food for us to cook and we enjoyed the meals cooked by the teams with Nash's guidance. I wish I had booked the 73 day Absolute Safari! I will be back to do the second half!

This tour was absolutely fantastic, made all the more better by our guide Aly and driver Steve. Had a total ball travelling through Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania for 5.5 weeks. It was an awesome mix of culture, safari and then relaxing on the beach. Would totally recommend the tour, and Absolute Africa to anybody. Already plotting my next safari

This was my first overlanding camping experience and I was particularly nervous. However, our guide was absolutely fantastic from the word go and set about giving us a tutorial on how to put up our tent which was surprisingly easy! The route was fantastic and all of the National Park fees were included in the cost of what was paid in advance. This worked really well as it meant extra activities could be added on but never felt mandatory. Our guide was also fantastic at suggesting which activities might be better to do elsewhere on the tour than others. Our driver was also great making the long driving days as comfortable and quick as possible. The things I experienced on this tour were truly 'once in a lifetime' and I cannot recommend it enough!!

The highlights of this trip were the Gorilla trek, white water rafting the nile and the safaris in Tanzania - serengeti, Ngorongoro crator and tarangeri. Unfortunately Kenya broke out into chaos while we were in Uganda on our way back to Kenya so we had to substitute activities that we missed in kenya so I think we missed some more cool stuff. but we did go to murchison falls in uganda and although its not as good as some of the tanzania parks it is getting better and a good chance to see hippos and crocs. Before kenya broke out I would have suggested starting in Entebee as the first week in kenya didn't have much happening while we waited to pick up more people in Uganda - but now they probably start the tour there anyway. Packing tips: deet 50% - 100% is potent and melts plastic! Pack light coloured clothes and long sleeve / legs for dusk till dawn - also helps when doing the safaris as tsetse flies are attracted to dark blue and black colours and their bites hurt! dust protection for your cameras - many cameras fill with dust and breakdown from the dust so try to reduce it It was a good group of people on the tour (except the tour leader) we had 20-30s and some older couples was a good mix. Mostly aussies and kiwis at this time of year - travelling back from london before xmas. Its a good company as far as cost but it involves everyone pitching in to cook dinner and breakfast (in groups). Make sure you calculate additional costs correctly and carry cash. Lots of people relied on cards even though advised not to and got stuck along the way as no atms! Keep cash on you until you meet the truck - they have safety boxes. Good bunch of people and fun trip - we were unlucky at some circumstances but defo worth meeting lots of new people and having a blast in east africa!

Trip of a lifetime! A 5 week overland tour through Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania, ending with 4 days on Zanzibar. Highlights of the trip would be the gorilla hike in Rwanda, hiked for a couple of hours, vertical incline at times, lots of slippping and sliding in the mud, but men with machetes hacking away a path. The gorillas were absolutely amazing! A family of 12 gorillas, the silverback was massive. They didn't seem bothered by our presence at all. Another highlight was white water rafting on the nile river in Uganda. Grade 5 rapids, was absolutely crapping myself at times, but it was brilliant, and safe despite appearances. The serengeti in Tanzania and the Masai mara in Kenya were fantastic. The colours, sights and sounds were amazing. Packing tips? For a trip like this you need heaps of undies. There wasn't that much of a chance to wash so your outer garments were always dirty. But with clean undies on you alwyas feel on top of the world. It was predominantly camping, with the occasional stay in a backpackers. Food was great, well organised. Absolute africa has a great seat up as far as the overland truck is concerned. And we had local guides, a kenyan and a ugandan, who went above and beyond the responsibilities. They were heaps of fun. Do it, cos you will love it. Absolute africa, wildlife and spice tour

Questions & Answers

Here we have collected and answered the most frequently asked questions about this tour.

    • February 19, 2016

When is the best time to view the migration?

The prime time to visit the Serengeti in Tanzania is usually regarded as being from late November through to March when the big herds of wildebeest, Thomson’s gazelle and zebra head on to the southern plains of the Serengeti.

To get the best viewing on the other hand in Kenya's Masai Mara July through to September are usually regarded as the best months.

      What is the local payment?

The local payment is a separate payment from the initial price you pay before you leave. If a local payment is required it will be shown with the trip price. This second payment is made in Africa at the start of your trip. It is payable in USD. The local payment provides us with the means for expenses that need to be paid in cash to local businesses en route to be arranged in the most cost effective manner possible, a saving we can then pass on to you. It also means we can operate in a way that directly supports local businesses and wildlife authorities as we travel. Local Payment will not be changed once you have booked your travel arrangements.

How much will this tour really cost?

The costs to consider when travelling overland are:

      Safari price & Local payment,
      Optional excursions,
      Personal spending money,
      Visas.

We are always very transparent about what a tour will cost and are happy to go through personal, tailored budgets to give you a very realistic idea of what you will spend on your tour - whether you are an adrenaline junkie, souvenir-shopaholic or travelling on a shoestring…
