    Asked on July 17th, 2026

Would it be possible to arrange an airport pickup after my flight arrives at 10:26 PM and a drop-off at the airport around 4:00 AM so I can catch my return flight? I noticed that the transportation information says, "Airport Transfers Whitehorse (4:00 AM to 8:30 PM)." If airport transfers are not available at those times, are taxis available 24 hours a day? If not, is it possible to stay overnight at the airport?

How far is Whitehorse Airport (YXY) from the hotel where I will be staying?

    • K

      Kristen

      TravelerWritten July 2026

I understand that meals are not included in the tour. Are there any grocery stores or restaurants within walking distance of the hotel? If so, what are their typical business hours?

    • Arctic Range AdventureOperatorWritten July 2026

If your flight will arrive at 10:26 pm, you must be ready at the lobby of the hotel for your first Aurora Viewing tour at least at 23:10 pm, as the tour departs at 23:20. For your 5:00 am return flight, our logistic is to transport you from the Aurora Viewing Centre to the airport directly after the last Aurora Viewing tour. Around 3:30 am. For this, we ask you to check out of the hotel before the Aurora Viewing tour and bring your luggage with you. We offer this option regularly and none of our participants have missed their flight taking by this service. Whitehorse airport is small and usually at the moment of arriving in the early morning, you will be able to check in or go to the security gate. Whitehorse Airport is very small and has no open facilities during the night nor staff to attend you. So it is not recommended at all to stay overnight.

    • Arctic Range AdventureOperatorWritten July 2026

The airport is located around 10-15 minutes aways from the Sternwheeler Hotel, located in downtown Whitehorse, just 2 blocks from the main street where you'll find a variety of restaurants.

    • Arctic Range AdventureOperatorWritten July 2026

Downtown Whitehorse offers a wide variety of restaurants, cafes, diners and bars. There are vegetarian and vegan options in certain coffee shops and brunch restaurants. There is also a grocery store located at a 10-minute walk from your Hotel: Independent Grocer Store. Walmart is located further away, accessible by taxi or bus. RESTAURANT RECOMMENDATIONS: Steak and specialty meat - The Belly of the Bison, Coopers/ Miner's daughter Mediterranean/Italian – Giorgio's Cuccina Western style food - 506 All Day Grill, Smoke and Sow BBQ Restaurant Pub style food, specialty bison burger - Dirty Northern Japanese – Asahiya Japanese Restaurant Breakfast - Burnt toast café, Lumel Studios, Crêperie La Petite Maison, Cocktails and beer – Woodcutter's Blanket, Yukon Brewery. As a side note, we recommend you to try in town: Bison burger, Arctic Char dish, the Yukon 75 cocktail (Yukon Brewing company).

      Kristen

      TravelerWritten July 2026

Since I don't want to miss the first night's aurora tour, what if I arrive one day earlier, on September 17 at 10:26 PM, and wait at the airport until your airport transfer service is available to pick me up and take me to the hotel? I understand that you don't recommend staying overnight at the airport, but is it allowed? Would that be an option? If not, do you have any other recommendations for arriving that late?

    • Arctic Range AdventureOperatorWritten July 2026

Kindly note that our pick up services from airport would start around 10:00 or 11: am. It is only our drop off which happens at 4:00 am for the 5:00 am flight. So you would be waiting long time in the airport and with the only possibility to check in until 3:00 pm to your hotel. We have had the cases in which the clients were not allowed and were called out by the airport staff, which results in a bad experience. We always recommend to book an extra accommodation night, either by your own on your preferred accommodation, or add the hotel night to your package, so you can arrive directly to rest after your long flight. You will wake up next day well rested and ready to fully enjoy your tour program. We recommend you to look for the local accommodations options or if interested, you can also book and pay an extra hotel night with us.

    • K

      Kristen

      TravelerWritten July 2026

How much would an extra night's stay at the hotel cost for two people? If we arrive at Whitehorse Airport on September 17 at 10:26 PM, would you be able to pick us up from the airport and take us to the hotel at that time? If so, would there be any additional transportation fee? Also, would we be able to check in to the hotel that late? What are the chances of seeing the Northern Lights during the dates I'll be there?

    • Arctic Range AdventureOperatorWritten July 2026

The cost of an extra night at the Sternwheeler Hotel is $256.20CAD in a DBL room. Yes, we can arrange a private airport transfer for your arrival at 10:26 PM. Since this is outside our regular transfer hours, there would be an additional surcharge of $112.50CAD for the late-night private transfer. Or you can take the free shuttle outside the airport or taxi, they charge $40CAD max, and we can provide the orientation the next morning. Yes, you will be able to check in to the hotel upon arrival. We will notify the hotel of your late arrival to ensure your room is ready. September is a wonderful time to visit the Yukon for Northern Lights viewing. During your stay, you will have an excellent opportunity to see the Aurora Borealis, provided the skies are clear and there is sufficient solar activity. While the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed, staying for several nights greatly increases your chances of witnessing them. Many of our guests visiting during mid-September are fortunate enough to enjoy this unforgettable experience.

    • K

      Kristen

      TravelerWritten July 2026

Is there a free airport shuttle to the hotel? Do the airport shuttle and taxis operate 24 hours a day? Do I need to exchange U.S. dollars for Canadian dollars, or can I simply use a credit card for taxis, grocery stores, restaurants, and other purchases?

    • Arctic Range AdventureOperatorWritten July 2026

Yes, there is usually a free airport shuttle available at the airport. It is a first come first serve basis. If you have a reservation on some of the downtown hotels, you are able to take this free shuttle. It takes around 15-20 minutes, depending on the number of hotels it drops people off at. The shuttle service only operates only when there is an arriving flight. The taxi service must be available most of the time, however they are not 24-7 in the airport. We do not recommend to exchange USD dollars to canadians, as you can pay almost every purchase, restaurant and gift shop by card. We do recommend to bring cash for guide tips.

September is a wonderful time to experience the Northern Lights. In Whitehorse, the aurora viewing season typically begins around August 15th, offering great opportunities to see this natural phenomenon.

The hotel included in this quote is the Sternwheeler Hotel, a recently renovated 3-star property. The price is per person, based on double occupancy (two people sharing one room with either one king bed or two queen beds). For your group of four adults, two rooms will be provided.

    Asked on February 8th, 2026

how far in advance should a person consider booking the tours? I would like to come to Canada in August, but I would probably start figuring out how long to stay in different places in Canada, roughly 3 months out from my flight date. Would there still be ok availability for 2 people to choose a possible August date (any tour start date from 21st-27th) if booking may/june?

    Price / Availability
    • Arctic Range AdventureOperatorWritten February 2026

You can book whenever it is best for you, we already have some reservations for November 2026 or even January 2027. We recommend to book in advance so you can start planning your trip with ease. Our Summer dates and prices are already available so you can take a look on that and place a deposit for your trip. We do believe May/June is a good date to confirm your trip. If you decide to book, we will contact you and follow up on your reservation with the information needed and extra inquiries and questions you may have.

    • Arctic Range AdventureOperatorWritten November 2025

The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, are truly one of nature's most breathtaking displays. In Whitehorse, they can be seen from August 15 to April 15, though their visibility depends on a combination of weather conditions and solar activity. While we cannot guarantee a perfect viewing every night, we design our tours to give you the best possible chance to experience this magical phenomenon. To increase your chances of witnessing the Aurora, we recommend: • Booking a minimum of 3 nights on our Aurora Viewing Tours • Using tools like the Aurora app and a reliable weather app to track real-time solar activity and forecasts With these tips and our expert guides, your experience is carefully crafted to maximize your opportunity to see the Northern Lights.

As long as you are able to assist your mother with getting on and off the bus and navigating the steps at our Aurora Centre, she is welcome to participate. Please note that the Aurora Centre has a gravel surface, so unfortunately it is not suitable for wheelchairs. However, if she is able to walk a little, she should be just fine. For the Welcome City Tour, she is welcome to remain on the bus during the stops and enjoy the sights from the window if she prefers not to disembark.
