  I always dreamt of going to Egypt when I was young.. as I got older I became worried about the safety and security and dismissed my desire to touch the Pyramids and visit amazing Temple Sites. An opportunity arose and I was assured of safety and security as much as you can be. Our Guide MoMo was truly amazing. He was courteous and ever so humorous. His knowledge of Ancient Egypt and the modern conflicts was exceptional. He advised us with regards to safety and security every step of the way. MoMo was so helpful to me, I am 71 and when I asked for help with my luggage he was right there for me the whole time. I am so grateful. My sincere appreciation to MoMo..Show more

  We had the most amazing time on our on the go tours/Africa travel company trip. We were slightly apprehensive as we had booked the cheapest trip out there and had got 2 for 1 on the original payment (basically everyone had got it 2for1 on the trip so don’t pay full price if possible!) although I looked and emailed and asked loads of questions, I honestly couldn’t see a catch. Well I’ll start with why it is cheaper than the others... 1 unlike some of the other vehicles you will see on your trip, this one has no A/C if you email them they will tell you this and I think it is in their brochure. This was pretty hard work, especially when we were in Namibia and it was 40+ degrees. But to be honest, the premium you pay seemingly just for air con doesn’t seem worth it. We were fine and it didn’t make the trip worse in any way. The other thing is that unlike the other buses we saw ours was the biggest with the most seats. That means at one point there was 26 of us on the truck. It was a bit much at times, but then we saw a truck coming back down (falls to cape) with only 4 people on it!! So I think it really depends on the date you chose and which direction you’re going in. There was also no charging facilities on the truck, but with the power pack we took and the fact we could charge most evenings we kept 2 phones and a tablet charged for the whole 23 days. We had thought about doing the trip just the two of us in a 4x4 but having so many other people with us actually increased the experience. There are some very long drives in this itinerary and they were made better for the more people. Everyone was so friendly and we all had things in common, there were people from all over the world, Australia, Canada, Korea, china, UK, Germany etc etc and a lot of single travellers too. So on to the trip. Food was absolutely excellent, fresh fruit and veg every day, Peter our cook easily catered for gluten free and vegetarian diets. The meals were different every night and really high quality. The best thing I think is that NO ONE got ill. The hygiene on this trip was at such a high standard. I’ve been hospitalised on 2 occasions in different countries (Colombia and the Philippines) for food poisoning and I was very nervous it would happen again and ruin our trip, but we had no issues at all. Guides: our guides were brilliant. Fredrick was the main man - really brilliant, organised and cool headed, there were some tight border crossings and all sorts but he got them sorted no problem. Peter the cook was incredible as I’ve said and super friendly. Cyrus was our driver - he was incredible sometime driving 400km+ in a day and was super friendly always happy to chat. Participation - as it says in the brochure, participation is expected, we had a rota, so some days you washed the truck, others you helped with cooking or washing and you also got a day off. This was at points mildly frustrating as it might be your chance to have a swim, but for the price you’re paying you have to expect some participation. You also have to put up your own tents, which with two people is super easy - I did it on my own a few times which took a little longer but no problem. The tents were brilliant and cool, we barely got bit on our trip. Itinerary - this is a fairly fast paced trip, and if you have more time or more money it would be great to do at a slower pace. Saying that I don’t think you miss a thing. We had the most incredible time seeing the most incredible things. South Africa is an amazing country and worth doing a lot of travelling around itself, we had a great couple of days in Cape Town before the trip, but found the actual trip section in South Africa a bit boring, but that might be because we’ve travelled South Africa ourselves pretty extensively. Namibia was absolutely amazing, deadvlei and sesriem were real highlights. Some of the most incredible scenery I’ve ever seen. Etosha was fantastic and well worth paying a little extra for a private tour. I felt like we saw almost the whole of Namibia and got a real sense of the vastness and beauty of the country. Botswana - probably my favourite country I have ever visited. It is so lush and beautiful and we stayed in some really incredible places. Elephants sands campsite was hands down one of my most favourite experiences. Chose boat ride was well worth doing and the overnight excursion in chine - though scary when you wake up to an elephant behind your tent, was just incredible. Okavango delta was out of this world and a must do, should be on everyone’s travel bucket list. You don’t see much of Zimbabwe but seeing the vic falls is one of the most incredible sights. A few of our group stayed in the royal livingstone hotel over the border in Zambia once the trip had finished - very expensive but sounds like it was worth it! We also crossed into Zambia for a few days before flying home and stayed in the Jollyboys backpackers which was very nice. Optional extras - basically everything you need is included the only extra we went for and was a private game drive in etosha (well worth it) and the boat ride in chobe which again we loved. we decided not to any of the adventure things in swakopmund as we had done lots of them before and we really wanted to relax. Accommodation - was over all very good. Pretty much every campsite had a lovely pool and a good bar. The 2 nights in swakopmund was lovely as we had a double bed and WiFi!!! What Luxury! There was the option to upgrade in a lot of places which some people did. We only upgraded at elephant sands which was definitely worth it. Money - we had no idea really how much to budget for this trip. We took US$600 between two of us and I think spent an extra £200 on our credit card. So we spent a lot less than the suggested $50 per day per person. That was with buying beers/wine most nights, souvenirs and the few extras/upgrade we had and border crossings. It was definitely worth taking money in dollars as we needed them at each border and you could exchange them very easily. Also do take a credit card. We also took a Revolut card which was great as we could pay with it in all the different currencies but as there wasn’t loads of WiFi in campsites/shopping areas it was hard to top up/find out the balance. One thing I would say is this trip is tiring, if you’re sociable like me it was late nights, early mornings and sometimes long drives. We were exhausted by the end and very happy to have a few days rest before going home! But honestly, between myself and my husband we’ve done a lot of travelling and We would say this is up there in the best thing we have ever done. When we arrived our guide Fredrick used the phrase ‘you get what you pay for’ which worried us a bit as we paid so little! But I disagree with Fredrick - the experience we got was well above and beyond what we paid for! Don’t hesitate, just do it. You will have the trip of a life time.Show more
