🌍 The Good Bits: People & Places Some of the locations were stunning, and a few fellow travelers made the chaos bearable. Without them, this tour would’ve been a full-blown endurance test. 📣 Why I’m Speaking Up Expat Facebook groups don’t love criticism, but here’s the truth—because sugar-coating exhaustion isn’t my style. ⏰ Wake-Up Call: Painfully Early Every day starts between 5:00 and 6:30am. If you’re dreaming of leisurely mornings, dream elsewhere. 💸 Optional Tours = Optional Value They’ll drop you off, but getting back? That’s your problem. These extras drain your euros faster than you can say “rip-off.” 🏨 Hotel Roulette Mostly cramped, out-of-the-way spots. A few gems appeared near the end, but early on it was staircases, sweat, and suitcase squats. Shoutout to the legends who helped me lug my bag—beer well earned. 🚶‍♀️ Local Tours = Heat + Kilometres Expect 2+ hours of walking, often in blazing heat. Florence was a 13km marathon—not ideal for older travellers or anyone with mobility challenges. ⚠️ Not Mobility-Friendly If you can’t keep pace, you’re left behind. Accessibility? Not part of the itinerary. 🧭 Tour Guide Troubles Let’s just say the tip jar won’t be overflowing. Discontent is widespread, and the complaints are stacking up. 🚌 Driver = MVP The hero of the tour. Kind, reliable, and legally required to stop every 2 hours—which also saved our bladders and sanity. ❌ Would I Recommend It? Nope. 26 days. 14 countries. Blink and you’ve missed half of it. It’s a whirlwind with little depth. My first and last group tour—but now I know where I want to return (minus the chaos). 🏔️ Switzerland: The Silver Lining Mountain views, a touch of altitude sickness, and a cold breeze that fixed everything. Worth it.

Overall, this was really a great trip! Admittedly there were serious hiccups. PROS: Expat will allow you a FREE day to explore on your own! I love that; the driver was PHENOMENAL on this particular trip. Tipping this driver at the end of this trip was not a problem at all! He was worth more than what was asked based on him going way and beyond to assist the patrons and his overall gentle and kind personality!! The tour guide was good and knowledgeable but VERY SENSITIVE if he didn’t like something you said or even if you didn’t like the meal! His reactions was crazy at times. CONS; Way too fasted paced! The tour guide kept insisting everyone KEEP UP! KEEP UP!; I think the older people did better than the younger people!; Very fews tours were in the city center. Many were very far out; This is not the type of company to travel with if you are a first time European traveler. It would have been very intimidating because it was so fast paced and transportation at times confusing; some hotels were terrible. But I’m ok with that because they were many the ones for one night.; Most tour companies arrival start day is your FREE day and the same with DEPARTURE date!! This is not true of Expat! There are some places that could have been alleviated in order to spend more time in others. Overall it was a great treat, but there are definitely ways to improvements, that is the reading or the four starts.

We saw a lot in this 13 country trip over 26 days, however, the trip would have been more enjoyable and less stressful if Expat would have chosen better quality hotels, modified the itinerary so that the group would have arrived at the hotel by 6 or 7 pm instead of 9 - 9:30 pm followed by a 6:30 am breakfast and 7:15 am back on the bus schedule. Expat should identify that participants have to be quite fit, able to walk at a speed of 5 km/3 miles per hour for 1-3 hours on the city orientation tours and have to carry/drag their heavy suitcase up 2 or more flights of stairs because some of the hotels have no elevator or inadequate elevators. The tour leader should also slow down his/her walking speed to avoid falls and loosing tour members during the walk!

    Asked on September 10th, 2025

I wanted to check about luggage assistance. My clients are a couple in their 70's and looking to have some help with their luggage. They are looking for a relaxed pace without having to rush.

    Transport
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten September 2025

For our Tours, each Traveller is allowed to bring one main piece of luggage weighing no more than 20kg, and one small soft bag (such as a small daypack or backpack) for hand luggage weighing a maximum of 7kg. On all tours, travelers will have to carry your own luggage (e.g. into hotels and up to their room if hotels don't have elevators).

    Judith

    Asked on September 8th, 2025

If I already have an active travel insurance policy, can I add this to the booking instead of going through your 3rd party? How would I add mine onto the booking? Also is it possible to get one per-night & one post-night accommodation as well?

    Accommodation
    Travel Support
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten September 2025

I can confirm that it's absolutely fine to use your own travel insurance. You'll just need to add your policy details to the IPI form (Important Passenger Information). For any further assistance, it's best to log in to your confirmed TourRadar booking dashboard, as this allows us to view your booking directly and provide tailored support. Regarding your request for one pre-night and one post-night stay, unfortunately, we don't offer pre/post-tour accommodations. We recommend arranging these independently via a platform like Booking.com, using the tour's meeting and ending points as your reference.

    Asked on July 18th, 2025

We are planning a vacation next year. This one in Europe interests me. My question is whether or not this vacation is appropriate for those in their 60s with little walking issues(mainly stairs)

    Age Range
    Tour Details
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten July 2025

Although our tours are popular with the 60+ demographic, we do want customers that fall within that Age Range to assess if they are fit for the tour. We believe the best way to get to the heart and soul of a city is on foot, surrounded by the people and the culture. For this reason, we do walking tours through most of the cities we visit. Many of the cities you visit are vast and old, often with steps and cobblestones. Our walking tours can last up to 3 hours with plenty of opportunities to take photographs and soak up the history of these fascinating places, but you do require a certain level of fitness to enjoy your tour to its fullest.

    Asked on May 22nd, 2025

Is it possible to stay 2 more days in Switzerland at our own cost

    Accommodation
    Tour Details
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten May 2025

We currently do not offer customizations to our tours. This means that if you join the Ultimate Europe Tour, you can choose to complete the tour and make your way back to Switzerland for the extra days. Or you can leave the tour group in Switzerland to spend more days. Both options would mean that you will have to arrange accommodations and transportation. While Option 2 is allowed (Customers leaving the tour early) but since our Tours are sold as a package, there is no discount or refund if the customer leaves early.

  • J

    Judy

    Asked on May 11th, 2025

Does it mean that these free days will not be guided by tour guide?

    Tour Details
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten May 2025

Yes, you are correct. On your free days, you will have the day on your own, and there will be no guided tours by the tour leader. However, there are optional excursions available that you can join on those free days. For example, on Day 11 in Rome, you can pre-book the Colosseum & Roman Forum Guided Tour and other optional activities. Most optional excursions can be booked during the tour, but some require pre-booking ahead of time.

  • L

    Liam

    Asked on May 4th, 2025

I have booked this tour and am wondering about visas required/ETIAS. I am from Australia and it appears I don't need visas however the ETIA seems to be coming into effect for the time I travel. Can you please advise

    Visa
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten May 2025

As an Australian passport holder, you currently do not need a visa for short stays (up to 90 days in a 180-day period) within the Schengen Area, which covers most countries on the Ultimate Europe tour. Regarding ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) – this is not a visa, but a travel authorisation that will become mandatory starting in late 2026. Since your travel is in 2025, ETIAS will not yet be required, so there's no action needed for your upcoming trip.

    • L

      Liam

      TravelerWritten May 2025

Does that mean there is a country that does require a VISA given you have said "most" as opposed to "all"?

    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten May 2025

As an Australian passport holder, you currently do not require a visa for any of the countries included in the Ultimate Europe tour. However, please note that visa regulations can change, and since we are not a licensed visa agency, we strongly recommend double-checking with an official visa or travel authority to ensure everything is in order for your trip.

    Tour Details
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten May 2025

Regrettably, we can no longer assist with transfers. We recommend using public transport for airport-to-hotel transportation. If you prefer a transfer service, you can easily book through Welcome Pickups, a user-friendly platform with competitive prices.

    Asked on April 28th, 2025

Will there be dates for this tour in September/October 2026?

    Price / Availability
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten April 2025

There should be September and October 2026 dates for this tour, similar to the dates we have this year. As your requested travel period is still more than a year away, no official proposals have been released yet. We recommend checking back with us in the coming months, as more 2026 departure dates should become available closer to the time.

    Belinda

    Asked on March 28th, 2025

Can I have a single supplement for this tour please?

    Accommodation
    Single supplement
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten March 2025

There are still 10 seats available on the Ultimate Europe tour departing on May 5, 2025. Please note that single rooms are no longer available for this departure. You'll be accommodated in a twin room shared with another passenger of the same gender.

    • B

      Belinda

      TravelerWritten March 2025

Please give me a quote for that departure without single supplement please. There is another Europe Trafalga or Costsaver tour 29 days end of May with either Trafalga or Costsaver. CAN I have a quote with single supplement please.

    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten March 2025

Please note the tour cost is subject to the current website rate. We unfortunately do not have any single rooms available for the Ultimate Europe tour departing 5 May 2025.
