Can I pay to get my own room? What is the median age on your tours?

Yes, if you choose to book with the single supplement, you will be guaranteed your own room for the duration of the tour. if you are happy to share with another solo same sex traveller then you can choose not to pay the single supplement. The average age on our tours is 50 years.

I'm looking for a 8-12 day safari for myself, my wife and my 15yr old daughter for late july - early August. Ideally we'd like to fly in to Johannesburg and would like to see Okavango and vic falls, but open to other options. How easy is it to get triple rooms. Would you have an itinerary to recommend? Open to group tour but would love a personalized. Budget is about US$15k

Our accommodation is booked as twin rooms and most of the lodges that we utilise do not have triple rooms. As a family of 3 two of you would be roomed together and the third person separately. It is your choice whether the third person shares with another same sex person who is travelling solo; in which case there is no additional charge. Should the third person wish for their own room there is a single supplement.

For Kruger National Park, will the game drives be on road or off road or mixture of both? What kind of vehicles? Do we get to see animals up close? How are the road conditions? Would it be an issue for someone with some motion sickness?

Driving within Kruger is on road only. Off road driving is strictly prohibited. Your guides will do their best to allow good sightings of any animals seen, but as the animals are free roaming, I cannot guarantee what you will see nor how close you will be to the animals. Some roads will be tar, some will be dirt roads and therefore can be quite bumpy. I cannot say if they would be suitable for someone with motion sickness; this would depend on the extent of the motion sickness and the effectiveness of the medication taken.

The cost per person on the ZBa16 tour is US$ 3 190. This excludes flights, travel insurance, water, drinks, own expense meals and activities not mentioned

Would it be possible to get an extra day with game drives in Kruger at the beginning of the tour? And what additional cost for one person?

We've had guests arriving earlier to the Kruger NP for doing a few game drives over a few days before joining the tour and meeting us at the first accommodation (Letaba Camp inside the Kruger NP). It might be a good idea to contact the Kruger NP if you would like to stay withing the Kruger NP, or you will also have the possibility of staying outside of the Kruger NP, while driving in for game drives before joining the tour.

Is it possible to arrange a pre-tour accommodation?

Pre-tour accommodation is available at the Rivonia Road Lodge, where the tour will depart from on Day 1 at 06:00. Please contact us to arrange this.

What is the minimum number of people for the tour to depart?

Tour was generally what was described in all the information provided. Sunway did a great job of providing written material about the trip, so one should not have had too many surprises.Visited many, many parks, historic sites and scenic views. Liked the small group of 12 or less. Most accommodations were equal to or better than promised (although not all). All had a/c, which was greatly appreciated after long, hot days. Also had wifi often available, even though our brochure stated it was not. Nice to have two guides, both who were knowledgeable about wildlife, history and what to expect. The large, safari van worked well. Not perfect, but certainly what was needed for the trip.Van did have a/c, a great surprise to us. Overall very hot during the day but always cooled to a very comfortable evening temperature. Bugs and mosquitoes were minimal, and one could enjoy the cool evenings outdoors without suffering. If covering large areas and seeing many parks is what you are after, then this is a great trip. Hard, but it is Africa. Now the bad. Almost two-thirds of our promised accommodations were changed 30 days before departure.Some were improvements, but one (Matobo) was tented, not accommodated. Lived in a tent with minimal, shared showers and toilets. This should have not been allowed. Seems like poor planning or bait and switch. Travel van seats were very hard, and became very uncomfortable when travelling 6 to 8 hours per day. Had e-mailed Sunway and asked if we should pre-book optional tours. They replied that it was unnecessary and could be done upon arrival. Bad advice. Optionals in Victoria Falls and Okavango Delta were not available, and we either did without or re-scheduled for a less convenient time. Better planning is needed. Food prepared by the group was average at best. Seemed to be an effort to keep food costs down. Always plenty, but often mostly filler like pasta, maize or rice. Although different guides might result in a different outcome.Safari tours in the parks often started too late. By 11:00am most game has disappeared. Starting late meant the wildlife we saw was minimal considering the number of hours we spent looking. Sixteen days and we did not see the big 5. One sighting of lions, one close sighting of rhinos and none of leopards. In contrast, I took an individual trip back to Kruger after the Sunway tour ended, entered the park early and had close-up, big 5 sightings by 10:00am on both days we toured.The Khama Rhino experience was not good. Our safari van is large, is not 4 wheel drive and not able to make it through the deep sands of the park. Seems like getting stuck in the sand is a common problem, yet Sunway continues to not use the safari jeeps available at the park which are made for these conditions. Spent all of our time at the park pushing a large van out of the sand. No close sightings at all. Only a lot of tired, sweat drenched tourists. Even in September it was hot. Often over 40C (104F). Be prepared.Show more

Payment information
- For any tour departing before July 13th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after July 13th, 2026, a minimum payment of 20% is required to confirm your booking with Sunway Safaris. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 50 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
