Unfortunately, my experience in the Serengeti was disappointing to say the least. I was told by a few other members of my group that I should NOT judge Intrepid based on this tour because they had taken others and they were great. This trip was not great. My main complaints all had to do with our guide, as I used to be a guide myself and I expected so much more. My other biggest complaint would be that in the eight day trip, we only did three days worth of activities. We drove for 80% of the trip. There is no reason the Serengeti trail needs to go from Nairobi to Nairobi as we did absolutely nothing in Kenya and it just added so much unnecessary time driving and dealing with customs. Quinta disappointed me the most because she did very little to utilize tthe huge amount of time we did spend in the Intrepid truck. She almost never spoke, we never knew where we were headed or what we were doing that day (in any detail), we'd have to ask her to tell us about the landmarks we'd be passing, and when she did talk, it was usually so silent no one could hear her. We complained about it constantly so by the end of the trip we could tell she was making an effort to make herself heard, but her voice was just to quiet for such a loud ride. There was no greater disappointment though than her complete and utter ignorance as it related to the Serengeti, the crater, and the animals of Africa. Most of our questions went unanswered and we were to later find out that most of the facts she gave us about the animals were not true. Our group was lucky enough to have a zoologist on our bus, but it was sad to find out every night that everything we had "learned" that day from our guide had been untrue. Our first wildlife sighting in the Serengeti was a large group of elephants about 70 meters from the bus and one elephant lying down. I didn't even get out my camera because I assumed we'd be seeing lots of elephants, maybe even closer. I found out from the zoologist that night that the group of elephants were having a funeral. That is the kind of thing I would have loved to have known at the time. For the first sveral days of the trip our guide, cook, and bus driver were consistently late, having us leave 30-60 minutes after everyone else was ready. At customs into Tanzania, our uide straight disappeared for an hour. She did not guide us through customs, did not tell us where to meet or where to go, and no one saw her for an hour. We arrived at camps too late to do the optional activities. Our guide would tell us to arrive for breakfast at one time the next morning and the cook would tell us that breakfast would be served at a different time. The entire trip was extremely unorganized and disappointing. I'm sure Quinta (?) is a lovely person, but she should not be a guide.

Fantastic Tour that really enabled travelers to get up close and personal with the amazing wildlife in the Serengeti and Crater. Great cultural experience as well with plenty of opportunities to experience everyday life and the local ways. Guides and cooks were amazing!!!

    4.0 - Good

My husband and i really enjoyed the Serengeti Trail. Our tour guide, David, was brilliant. He was extremely knowledgable, very friendly and kept everyone organised. Everyone on the group got on really well and this made the trip even more enjoyable. The camps we stayed in were basic but exactly what we expected. The food was good although we would have liked to have tried some more traditional African dishes. I particularly enjoyed the fact that the tour was participatory and that we all got involved in setting up the camp, cooking and cleaning. this got everyone interacting and helped the group bond. The tour bus we were on for the week, was not the most comfortable ride. it was an old bus and was not in very good condition, with bits coming undone throughout the week. By the time our journey was over, some of the panels were held on by rope!! However, the driver, Alex, was a very good driver and ensured we were all kept safe. overall, our journey with intrepid into the Serengeti and to the Ngorongoro Crater was a totally amazing experience. There were many highlights and no low points. We would definitely travel with intrepid again.

If you are looking for a safari and OK to take a break from the creature comforts, this is the trip to take! From watching the sunset over Lake Victoria to listening to lions roar from our tent in the Serengeti, this was definitely a trip I will not soon forget.

Patrick and our driver and cook wonderfully knowledgable and friendly. Didn\'t like the way we, without mention in trip notes or planning, joined another group.
