- Day 1
Amsterdam
Board your Rhine cruise ship in Amsterdam and get settled into your luxury stateroom. You'll have time to orient yourself on the ship and get ready for the river journey ahead. This is mostly about getting comfortable with your surroundings and meeting the crew before you set sail.

Amsterdam to Utrecht
Take a scenic cruise through Amsterdam's famous canals to get a feel for the city from the water. Then the ship sails to Utrecht where you can either join a walking tour of the town or skip that and try a beer tasting experience instead, depending on what appeals to you more.

Düsseldorf or Cologne
The ship docks in Düsseldorf where you'll check out German culture and architecture. You can join a walking tour and taste Altbier in the old town, or if you prefer, head to nearby Cologne for the day to see the Old Town, historic Rathaus, Fishmarkt, and Great St. Martin Church.

Rhine Gorge to Rüdesheim
You'll cruise through the UNESCO-designated Rhine Gorge, which is really the highlight of the river route. Once the ship reaches Rüdesheim, you've got several options: take a gondola above the vineyards up to Niederwalddenkmal, do some wine tasting, hike through the vineyards, take a bike tour, or visit Siegfried's Cabinet and try the local Rüdesheimer coffee.

- Day 5
Ludwigshafen to Heidelberg, Speyer, or Ladenburg
Docked at Ludwigshafen, you can choose your own adventure. Head to medieval Heidelberg to see the red sandstone castle and Great Vat, or hike the Philosopher's Path for views over the city. Other options include exploring Speyer's Romanesque cathedral and Old Gate, or cycling along the Neckar River with a stop in Ladenburg.

Strasbourg
Strasbourg mixes French and German influences in interesting ways. You can wander through La Petite France with its half-timbered buildings and canals, then head to the Cathedral to see the astronomical clock. There's also a guided bike ride option that takes you through the city and Parc de l'Orangerie if you prefer that.

From Breisach, you'll visit the Alsatian town of Colmar which has preserved 16th-century architecture throughout. There's even a small Statue of Liberty replica there if you want a photo. If you're up for more activity, you can cycle through the countryside or hike the Kaiserstuhl volcanic region with its vineyards and varied landscape.

- Day 8
Breisach to Basel to Lake Lucerne
After breakfast, you disembark in Basel where you'll get a highlights tour of Switzerland's third largest city. You'll see the medieval Town Hall and some elegant 18th-century patrician homes. After that, you transfer to Lake Lucerne to continue your journey.
