Itinerary
- Day 1
Kathmandu to Lukla
Your trek begins with a 30-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla at 2,800m, which is quite the experience. Once you land, you'll meet your trekking team and get your gear sorted. Then it's about an hour of gradual descent to Cheplung village where you'll see Mt. Khumbila for the first time. After that, continue down to Phakding where you'll stay your first night.

- Day 2
Phakding to Namche Bazaar
After breakfast, the trail takes you through pine forest heading north into the Benkar valley. You'll cross the Dudh Koshi River on a suspension bridge, pass through Chumoa to reach Monjo (the park entrance), then cross several more suspension bridges. From there the path gets steep as it climbs to Namche Bazaar, the main hub of the Khumbu region.

Namche Bazaar
Today's a rest day in Namche Bazaar where you can use ATMs, grab coffee at internet cafes, or just wander the market. If you want to get out, try a day hike to Khumjung village (12,401 feet) to see a traditional Sherpa settlement, or check out the Sherpa Culture Museum to learn about local life. You'll also get views of Mount Everest from various spots around town.

Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
Leaving after breakfast, the trail climbs through rhododendron forests past quiet villages on one of the trek's better scenic stretches. All day you'll have views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and other peaks. Later you drop down to the Dudh Koshi River and reach Tengboche, where the big monastery sits with spectacular mountain backdrops.

Tengboche to Dingboche
The day starts with forest trekking through birch and rhododendrons while Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam stay in view. You'll head down to Debuche, cross the Imja River, then continue through Pangboche and the Imja Valley following the Lobuche River. The trail ends with a climb up to Dingboche.

Dingboche
This is an acclimatization day at Dingboche, a popular stop for trekkers and climbers. The village has stone-walled fields growing barley, buckwheat, and potatoes. Check out local restaurants and shops, or if you're feeling up to it, take a day hike to Nagarjun Hill or Chukkhung Valley to see Makalu, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam from different angles.

Dingboche to Lobuche
After breakfast, you head toward Lobuche, getting closer to base camp. The trail starts gradual but then gets steep as it climbs to Chupki Lhara past the Khumbu glacier's end. From there you cross moraine terrain facing Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori, and other peaks. Later the path eases as you follow the valley into Lobuche, your last stop before base camp.

Lobuche to Everest Base Camp to Gorak Shep
This is the big day you've been waiting for. Head out through Gorak Shep Lake, a small settlement on the ridge, then continue on rocky terrain toward Everest Base Camp. The thin air makes the walk challenging as you cross rocky dunes, moraine, and streams. Once there, take in the moment and snap photos with Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pumori around you. Return to Gorak Shep to sleep.

- Day 9
Gorak Shep to Kalapathar to Pheriche
Head to Kalapathar early (prepare for darkness and -10 to -14°C cold), the highest point on your trek. From here you get 360-degree views of Everest and surrounding peaks like nothing else. Take pictures and soak in the panorama before trekking back down to Pheriche for the night.

Pheriche to Namche Bazaar
After breakfast, trek back down to Namche Bazaar passing through rhododendron and juniper forests. Watch for colorful pheasants and mountain goats as you go. You'll pass Tengboche again on the familiar route. A couple of hours later, you're back at Namche Bazaar.

Namche Bazaar to Lukla
After breakfast, head down a steep rocky trail toward Lukla, being careful with each step. Once you cross the Dudh Koshi River bridges, the path flattens out. When you reach Lukla, take time to rest your legs and reflect on the trek.
