Tips

  • Ensure that your pre-journey training is not all on flat ground as you’ll be trekking many steep sections and rocky mountain paths in Nepal.
  • Read up on how to recognize, avoid and treat altitude sickness. Pace your trek as even the most experienced trekkers need time to get acclimatized to the thinner air in the higher reaches of the Himalayas.
  • March to June is considered to be the peak trekking season but ask for regular weather updates throughout your trip.
  • A hiking stick and headlamp are quite indispensable so bring them along. Further, invest in a kit bag that can stand up to thorny bushes, jagged rocks and dusty camp sites.
  • Don’t cross streams and rivers barefoot as you may end up with a sprained ankle.
  • Essentials you need on hand include water, a windproof jacket and several dry pairs of socks. Pack early and light so you don’t end up with a lot of non-essentials. .
  • Practice the mantra of ‘Short steps, deep breaths’ when negotiating uphill stretches and steep passes.
  • Get a complete health check-up done prior to embarking on any strenuous trekking expedition.
