As a family, it meant everything to know that someone was looking out for each of us — checking on our health, adjusting the pace when needed, and always encouraging us with kindness and patience. Balaram, our porter, was simply incredible. His strength, humility, and constant smile lit up every stop along the trail. He treated us like family, not clients. The trek was amazing! Because it was just me and one guide, we had some flexibility. Coming back down from base camp I was feeling slower than expected so we added an extra day to my trek. I recommend future trekkers to take extra time going down if you're like me and want to take it easy and see a lot, instead of rush (the itinerary for coming back from base camp doubles the distance some days, which I understand some people need in order to finish their trip in a timely manner). Just make sure there is communication between the guide and porter so if you need to shorten a day, that you have your things too. My guide (Furinji) was excellent, full of information and good advice for helping with acclimation. I highly recommend him as your guide! The acclimation hikes were very helpful on the way up. One other thing, though, it was suggested that I bring a 40L day pack but I think 30L would have been fine since I had a porter. I would definitely do this trek again!
