Chennai
You'll arrive at Chennai airport and get transferred to your hotel to settle in. Later, head out to see some of the city's key spiritual and historical sites. The Kapaleeshwarar Temple shows off intricate Dravidian architecture, while the Marundheeswarar Temple is known for its medicinal significance. Fort St. George reflects the British colonial period, and you can check out St. Mary's Church, which happens to be India's oldest Anglican church. All of these are walkable highlights that give you a good feel for Chennai's layered history.

Mahabalipuram
After breakfast, you'll head out on a full-day trip to Kanchipuram, often called the City of Thousand Temples. This place is famous for silk sarees and ancient shrines. You'll see the Kailasanatha Temple and Ekambareswarar Temple, both incredible examples of temple architecture. From there, you move on to Mahabalipuram, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can walk through the Shore Temple, check out the monolithic Pancha Rathas, and see the Krishna Butter Ball, a massive boulder balanced on a hillside.
