Yes, you will need to bring your own sleeping bag. I am confirming with our operations team if it is possible to rent a sleeping bag and or clothing.

Is it suitable for a 75 year old to do this trek? If he cannot make it to the summit, can he stay in Shipton Camp and wait for the group?

If you are a mountain climber or trekker and fit you can make it with the up Sirimon down Sirimon route, if not, yes you can stay and Shipton and try to acclimatize or come down to Oldmoses, normally for Mt. Kenya we don't join them in a group in case the speed is slow, they go at their own pace. If you can't summit, the guide brings you down.

We came on this trip hoping to arrive in time to see the wildebeest migration in Masai Mara and unfortunately didn't coincide exactly because its not a guarantee that the wildebeest will be migrating the same week every year, but we saw SO MUCH WILDLIFE that we couldn't believe our eyes!
