  I expected to be on a tour with the same people every day and this only happened in Cusco to Machu Picchu. Pros * Machu Picchu guide Ernesto who was not only an excellent guide but also a great photographer. It was nice to have me in the photos which doesn't happen often as a solo traveller * Mamasara hotel in Agua Calientes. It was nice to have a comfortable bed and good shower after Cusco (see below) Cons * Lima tours - being the only English speaker is meant I missed some of what was being said as it was mostly in Spanish * El Puma hotel, Cusco - the hotel was very dated but the biggest problem was the bed. It was on a slant and was very uncomfortable and the blankets didn't feel clean. I would highly recommend not staying hereShow more

The city has a cool mix of modern and traditional, and there is always something to do. One of the most fun moments was when I went to the Huacachina desert and went sandboarding. At the beginning I was a little nervous to climb the dunes, but when I jumped on the board it was pure adrenaline. I ended up full of sand, laughing and wanting to do it again. Also, the buggy ride through the desert was incredible, especially at sunset. Then in Cusco the atmosphere changes completely. You can feel the history in every street, the energy of the Andes is special and the landscapes are breathtaking. Walking around the city and learning more about its culture was something I really enjoyed. It was a super complete trip: good food, adventure, beautiful landscapes and a lot of culture.
