  1. Day 1

    Kilimanjaro International Airport to Moshi

    You'll land at Kilimanjaro International Airport where a driver meets you for the transfer to K'S Hotel in Moshi. Settle in for the night with dinner and breakfast included, giving yourself time to rest before the trek begins tomorrow.

  2. Day 2

    Machame Camp

    After breakfast at the hotel, head to Machame Gate by 10 AM for trek registration at 10,000 feet. You'll meet your mountain crew including cooks and porters, then start the six-hour trek through rainforest and giant heathers to reach your first camp for the night.

  3. Day 3

    Machame Camp to Shira Camp

    The day starts with breakfast at camp, then you tackle a short but steep trek with rocky and dusty trails. Moving slowly with frequent breaks helps with acclimatization. Most of the route has little vegetation and minimal shade as you cross multiple ridges and spot your first Senecias before arriving at Shira Camp.

  4. Day 4

    Shira Camp to Barranco Camp

    You'll climb over boulders and rocks with a steady uphill push toward the Lava Tower at 14,850 feet. Lunch happens around noon, and there's an optional chance to continue up the tower if you're feeling good. Afterward, descend about 2 hours via dusty and rocky trails to Barranco Camp. Mild headaches from altitude changes are common at this point.

  5. Day 5

    Barranco Camp to Barranco Camp

    Start early with a game drive at camp, then tackle the steep Barranco wall which takes about 1.5 hours of scrambling using your hands like rock climbing. Walk through greener valleys to the mountain's last water point. From the wall's top, you can see the entire Barranco Valley. Return to camp for dinner and overnight rest.

  6. Day 6

    Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp

    After breakfast, trek across barren landscape covered with boulders and shattered rocks. Watch for Decken glaciers on your left as you climb a steep ridge, then scramble over rocky sections for about 1.5 hours to reach Barafu Camp. Dinner is early since you'll wake at 11 PM for the summit push.

  7. Day 7

    Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

    Summit climb begins around midnight starting with very steep rocks for about 1 hour, then entering snow-covered areas with glaciers overhead. On moonlit nights you can turn off your headlamp and walk by moonlight. Reach Stella Point after 2 hours with short 15-minute breaks along the way. Continue through loose lava fields to Uhuru Peak at 19,370 feet, arriving around 6-7 AM as sunrise hits the Mawenzi peaks. After breakfast at the summit, descend steeply back through Stella Point to Barafu Camp for lunch. The hike continues to Mweka Camp through very dusty conditions (in dry season) but remains manageable, ending with overnight at Mweka Camp.

    Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Moshi

    Descend from Mweka Camp at 3,100 m down to Mweka Gate at 2,000 m, covering about 15 km. Your driver picks you up at the gate and takes you back to K'S Hotel in Moshi to finish your trek with a hot meal and comfortable bed.

For tours departing after March 19th, 2026, a minimum payment of 30% is required to confirm your booking with Across Africa Tours & Travel. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 100 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
