  Japan had been on my family's travel bucket list for years, and I finally decided to book a tour that would take care of all the logistics for us. We visited so many incredible places in just 10 days, but the pace never felt rushed. I was able to truly relax because I didn't have to worry about getting everyone from one destination to the next or turning our vacation into another job. The guided visits, like Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and the Fushimi Inari shrine with its iconic torii gates, were well organized and gave us the historical and cultural context we would have missed on our own. At the same time, we still had free time in Osaka and Kyoto to explore at our own pace, try local restaurants, and wander through neighborhoods that weren't part of the itinerary. Our guide was fantastic. His explanations were engaging, and the extra context made each destination much more meaningful. He also had a great way of keeping my kids interested, which made the experience even better for our family. The accommodations were clean and conveniently located, so we could easily head out to explore after the day's tour ended. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and a wonderful way to see so much of Japan without the stress of planning every detail yourself. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Japan for the first time.Show more

  We loved our visit to Japan. Ume Tours planned all the logistics and it was so easy for my family to enjoy our time in the country. Big pluses were having a private guide, lots of free time to explore but still enough structure that no one had to stress about planning. The highlights for us were Senso-ji temple in Tokyo, seeing Mt Fuji while in the Hakone area, bamboo grove and Nara. The kids had a really fun time and loved everything that Japan had to offer. Hotels met our standards and we were also happy with having the Shinkansen train tickets arranged for us. All in all, the tour was well organized and we liked having a partially guided experience.Show more

The itinerary was well organized, the ease of travel from one place to another and to the various accommodations as well as the activities were very clear and easy to visualize. The recommendations were also very appealing to me because they weren't just a list of tourist attractions but things I was interested in doing during my trip. Booking was very simple and intuitive, no confusing steps or unclear instructions. One thing I'd like to add is that the activities and meals be offered more flexibly, in case of any last minute changes and also to have access to the estimated travel times between the stations quicker.Show more

  Our experience with UME Travel on the 10 Days Japan tour was excellent. The itinerary included all the must-see highlights while still allowing time to relax and explore. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable, and very patient with our children. The visit to Hiroshima and Miyajima was unforgettable, and Kyoto’s cultural sites were stunning.   I am writing to provide feedback regarding our recent trip to Japan and to provide several service failures experienced by our group with Phoebe specifically. While we enjoyed the destination, there were significant logistical and communication issues throughout the planning and execution phases. I believe the responsibility and failure stemmed from our agent. Specifically, I would like to address the following concerns: - Communication and Documentation: We did not receive our final itinerary until two days before the trip began. Though it was promised we would receive it two weeks before our trip. As I was already in Japan, I was unable to print the necessary documentation. Furthermore, the itinerary was poorly organized, with essential details like pickup times buried several pages deep. - Transportation: Despite our agreement stating that transfers were included, several guests, over the initial 4 people, 2 guests were forced to pay for their own taxis to and from the airport and hotels. There was no language in our contract suggesting these transfers were restricted to specific group sizes or any other restrictions. - Guide Quality and Consistency: The guide provided for Osaka and Hiroshima had two years of experience, contradicting the "10 years plus" standard advertised on the website. This guide struggled with communication (not a native Japanese speaker) and lacked local expertise. We booked back in August for a March trip, which should have provided time to get an appropriate guide. An independent event Booking request: The sumo wrestling booking was handled poorly. Despite requesting this last year, we received our tickets during the trip. Due to the delay, we had poor seat locations, which were on the far edge rather than the premium seating we expected. While we received a partial refund due to the price discrepancy after we saw the differences at the location, the lack of transparency regarding options was disappointing. Be aware the city tax is not included and must be paid by you at the hotel. The guides were told THEY MUST follow the itinerary by UME, even though this was a flexible personal tour, we should be able to make changes. As the lead, one of the other guest received key information and was communicated to all. I lack faith in UME after many communication with a supervisor. All my other trips with Tour Radar have been way better.Show more

While they follow the planned itinerary to ensure smooth logistics, we regret that the flexibility you expected wasn’t fully realized. Your feedback regarding guide experience is very helpful, and we will continue to ensure we match guides to guests’ specific preferences whenever possible. Sumo Tickets & City Tax: Sumo seating is allocated by the association within specific zones, and while we always aim for the best available, exact seat positions cannot be guaranteed. Regarding the city tax, this is a local requirement payable at the hotel; we are glad our guide was able to assist in covering this on-site to minimize any inconvenience. We truly value your trust in UME Travel and your feedback helps us refine our service and communication.
