  • Jump on a guided game drive across the iconic Savanna plains of Maasai Mara for big-cat sightings. Be there in time for the Great Migration when the area is teeming with millions of wildebeest in the throes of survival.
  • Get a fantastic view of Mount Kilimanjaro from the Amboseli National Park and be mesmerized by the cackling of thousands of pink flamingos at Lake Nakuru.
  • Watch wallowing hippos in the palm fringed waters of the Galana River at Tsavo East and see if you can spot birdlife in the swampy areas of the Tsavo West National Park.
  • Go on a camel-ride safari led by a local tribesman across the pristine Samburu country. Learn local traditions and go for walks in the bush or visit an indigenous village along the way.
  • Travel off the beaten track to view Africa’s special animals – Beisa oryx, Somali Ostrich, Grevy’s Zebra, and the Reticulated Giraffe in the arid Samburu region.
  • Get a rare chance to see chimpanzees and black rhinos at the Sweetwaters Game Reserve. Go on night safaris in search of nocturnal animals or follow the footprints of lions.
  • Experience the wonders of the Kakamega Rainforest, home to many native plant species and birds.
  • Hear the tales of local legends, visit vibrant markets and interact with Luo tribesmen for a taste of genuine Swahili hospitality.
  • Search for the elusive Bongo antelope which lives in the bamboo forests of the Aberdare National Park.

  • Animals are easily camouflaged in the surroundings so look for moving shapes, behavioural changes in other animals and listen for the sound of snorts or splashing water.
  • The main tourist season is during the hot months of December and January and the dry, cool months from June to August.
  • If you’re visiting during the rainy season which is from March to May, some of the national parks may be closed so check with your tour operator first.
  • August to October is the best time to watch the great Wildebeest migration in Kenya.
  • Choose a wide brimmed hat with a tie or strap for protection in windy conditions.
  • Neutral colored clothes work best as it will help you blend in with the environment.
  • Most areas do not accept women wearing shorts or short skirts so opt for long skirts or slacks.
  • In addition to the big 5 (buffalo, lion, leopard, elephant and rhino) keep on the lookout for giraffes and zebras. Lake Nakuru is a good place to spot rhinos and zebras.
