Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Kathmandu

    You'll arrive in Kathmandu and connect with your guide and staff for the drive to your hotel. After settling in and getting refreshed, your guide will walk through what's ahead on the trek, talking about the local lodges, the views you'll see, and the history and culture of the region. Later this evening, there's a welcome dinner at a Nepalese restaurant with traditional cultural performances.

  2. Day 2

    Kathmandu

    This is a free day to get ready for the trek. If you're interested, there's an optional morning tour of Kathmandu's heritage sites that takes a few hours, then you'll head back to your hotel. The afternoon is yours to handle personal tasks and final preparations for the days ahead.

  3. Day 3

    Kathmandu - Bhadrapur - Ilam

    You'll head to Kathmandu's domestic airport for a 45-minute flight to Bhadrapur in Far East Nepal. During the flight, you'll see panoramic views of Himalayan peaks including Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga. From Bhadrapur, the drive climbs uphill to Ilam, a cooler alpine town known for tea gardens and views of Kanchenjunga.

  4. Day 4

    Ilam - Taplejung

    A short morning drive takes you to Sukhetar, where there's a small airstrip, then you'll transfer to your local lodge or tented camp. After settling in, you can walk around Taplejung town and see the unique cultures and traditional farm life of eastern Nepal's people.

  5. Day 5

    Taplejung - Sinuwa

    Your first trekking day starts with a hike past small farm villages toward Mitlung. The path winds through rhododendron and pine forests with climbs offering views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Kabru. You'll descend to the Tamor River and trek through more forest to reach Sinuwa village for the night.

  6. Day 6

    Sinuwa - Taplethok

    Trekking downhill from Sinuwa toward Tawa village, you'll cross fresh streams and pass farm villages to Chirwa, a mixed-tribe settlement. Then the trek climbs over farm fields where you'll see cardamom growing in shaded areas, descending to Taplethok where the air gets noticeably cooler and Tibetan Buddhist culture becomes more visible.

  7. Day 7

    Taplethok - Sakathum

    You'll trek through farm villages with paddy fields and terraces, then enter a cool forest with short climbs offering peak views. The path leads to Sakathum, a farm village where your overnight camp is set up near the village.

  8. Day 8

    Sakathum - Amjilosa

    Trekking through several small farm villages brings you to a river bank where cardamom cultivation happens in dense tree shade. You'll climb to gain elevation, passing fields and settlements with views of distant peaks and rolling green hills before reaching Amjilosa for the night.

  9. Day 9

    Amjilosa - Gyabla/Kyapra

    The trek follows higher terrain as altitude increases toward cooler areas where paddy farms end. You'll walk closer to mountainous regions with scattered summer pastures, reaching Gyabla or Kyapra, a small cattle herders' village populated by Sherpa and Bhotia people of Buddhist culture.

  10. Day 10

    Gyabla - Ghunsa

    Start with a gentle downhill walk for about an hour, then climb through pine, oak, and rhododendron forest to a flat area at Ghunsa river. You'll continue on nice terrain to Ghunsa village, a settlement of Bhotia and Sherpa tribes with stone houses and neat small farms.

    Ghunsa

    Today is a rest day in Ghunsa to acclimatize before moving to higher elevations. You can hike around this beautiful village with its Buddhist culture, heading to a scenic viewpoint hill for panoramic mountain views and surrounding landscapes.

  12. Day 12

    Ghunsa - Khambachen

    From Ghunsa, you'll trek following the river with waterfall views along the way. You'll pass yak herder camps (depending on season), then continue along the Ghunsa river bank through rhododendron and pine forest. The path gradually ascends to Rambuk Kharkas with grand views of Khumbukarna and Janu peaks before descending gently to Khambachen valley.

    Khambachen - Lhonak

    You'll trek high above the river, heading east toward the terminal moraine of Kanchenjunga glacier. After passing Ramtang Kharka, the trail joins the Kanchenjunga glacier area as you reach Lhonak for the night with views of the glacier and surrounding peaks like Mera and Nepal Peak.

    Lhonak - Pang Pema (Kanchenjunga North Base Camp)

    This is the main highlight: you'll hike to Kanchenjunga North Base Camp (Pang Pema) and stand at the foot of the world's third highest mountain. The walk includes high river crossings with views of Kirat Chuli and Nepal Peak, then rocky terrain with glacier paths leading to base camp surrounded by giant peaks before returning to Lhonak.

    Ghunsa - Sele-La Kharka

  17. Day 17

    Sele-La Kharka - Tseram

    You'll trek higher today, crossing two scenic high passes with great views across the entire Kanchenjunga range. Walking through dense tree lines and crossing streams, you'll cross Sele-La pass with a gentle climb, then gradually descend to the base of Sinion La before reaching Tseram for the night.

  18. Day 18

    Tseram - Ramche

    Today's optional day hike goes to Oktang and Kanchenjunga South Base Camp, where the 1955 British Expedition was set up. You'll have close views of Yalung Glacier and Kanchenjunga's south wall, plus views of Talung and Kabru peaks. After about three hours, you'll return to Ramche for the night.

    Ramche - Tseram

    From Ramchaur, you'll climb steeply but briefly through magnolia, rhododendron, and bamboo forest. After crossing a stream and walking past a serpent-shaped shrine in a boulder, the path goes through forest to a riverbed then uphill to Tseram, where roofless bivouac caves face the Yalung glacier's terminal moraine.

  20. Day 20

    Tseram - Lamite Bhanjyang

    You'll trek back into green forested areas from the south base camp region. The path reaches Tortung, a small cattle herders' village surrounded by woodland, then continues mostly downhill with short climbs to Lamite Bhanjyang for the night.

  21. Day 21

    Lamite Bhanjyang - Yamphudin

    This is an easier trekking day as altitude drops with each hour. You'll head downhill through serene rhododendron and pine forest, crossing streams and entering a gorge to reach the small village of Yamphudin for the night.

  22. Day 22

    Yamphudin - Pompe Dhada

    The trek goes on steep downhill terrain toward rice and millet fields and into forest alongside the Nandeva khola stream. After crossing the stream, you'll continue downhill to a river, then climb into forested areas to Yangpang village, eventually reaching Pompe Dhada on a scenic hilltop with Mt. Jannu views.

  23. Day 23

    Pompe Dhada - Kunjari

    Another long trekking day takes you downhill through farm villages dominated by Hindu tribes including Brahmins and Chettries, mixed with Rai and Limbu people. You'll descend to Phawa khola, cross it toward Pokora village, then trek through farm fields across suspension bridges before climbing to Kunjari village.

  24. Day 24

    Kunjari - Taplejung

    Your final trekking day goes from Kunjari to Kande Bhanjyang with grand views of Kanchenjunga and Yalungkang. You'll trek through farm villages and reach Sukhetar, then continue to Taplejung, the main district town, for your last night. This hill town is known for Tomba, a warm local drink made from millet with mild alcohol content.

  25. Day 25

    Taplejung - Bhadarpur

    After finishing your trek around both sides of Kanchenjunga Base Camp, you'll drive more than five hours through the morning into the warmer Terai area of eastern Nepal. The route passes through Ilam town and its tea gardens, descending to the main highway and arriving at Bhartamod, a large town in Nepal's eastern zone, for the night.

    Bhadarpur - Kathmandu

  • Payment information
    • For any tour departing before April 6th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after April 6th, 2026, a minimum payment of 25% is required to confirm your booking with Eco Holidays Nepal. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
