ITERNARY - Highlights mention a sailing tour at Lake Naivasha and walking safari on Crescent Island, these are NOT part of the tour. - The Tanzanian side of the tour is organized by another company which is less well managed and caused delays and reduced safaris. + You have enough time per park and don't feel like you are in a constant hurry. + We saw 4 of the big 5 in the first park, and the last (Rhino) in the second park, which seemed to be common like that. + Our driver in Kenya, John, was amazing. He spoke great english, knew where to go for the best animal spotting, and every time asked if everyone is ok before continueing on to the next animals. + We got an optional toilet break every 3-4 hours during safaris as well as drives between parks. + The iternary is followed really well for the Kenyan part of the tour, we got about 25h of safari in Kenya. * I got sick on day 7 and we ultimately decided mid-day 8 to end to tour early and go back to Nairobi to have time to rest and get fit before the flight home. PRICE + Once I got sick and wanted to get back to Nairobi, it was organized extremely quickly and no extra costs were charged. * The park fees which are not included were 800USD (280USD of those for the Tanzanian parks). If you ask them, you can pay this online beforehand. * The optional village visit costs 15USD (was nice, not a must imo), and the hot air balloon safari costs 480USD (we skipped it). * We booked the tour in february for 3300 EUR p.p., when we looked in August the price had dropped to 2100EUR p.p.. ACCOMODATION & FOOD + We had warm water and a private shower and toilet at all accomodations. + We had proper beds at all accomodations + All accomodations had wifi, the hotels even had wifi in the rooms + The was pretty much the same every time: rice + green beans / carrot / cabbage + some cubed meat. Sometimes with slight variations / additions. + The lunch boxed had yoghurt, a sandwich, some fruit, a chicken leg, a muffin, juice, water, and chips. So quite some choice. * We didnt experience the basic camping as we went back due to me feeling ill. SUPPORT + They reply within a few days to question about the tour before it begins + During the tour it is easy to get in contact with them via Whatsapp * Unfortunately we noticed our driver in Tanzania was drunk, and when we told the organization they sent a new driver over no questions asked. The same happened for the car + driver when the car broke down. Unfortunately on our day 8 that happened twice killing that days safari, even for those who continued the tour. * Once I decided we wanted to go back to Nairobi because I felt ill they planned everything and sent a driver to pick us up and bring us to the Hotel in Arusha to continue to Nairobi the next morning. They even wanted to pay for the Uber to our Hotel once we arrived in Nairobi. We were never asked to pay anything additional, I guess they cancelled it out with the costs saved from the last few days of the tour we skipped, and we find that a great solution! RECOMMENDATION Personally, I would recommend Africa Venture Safaris but keep it at the Kenyan tour. You see plenty animals during that tour and it is the part where they are in control of the quality. Maybe see if you can get that sailing and walking safari as well as that would be a nice change from all the car safaris. Also we only spotted a single mosquito in Kenya whereas we counted hundreds in Tanzania.

I took a 14 day Kenya and Tanzania overland safari with Africa Venture Safaris, and the experience felt complete. Maasai Mara, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro all delivered strong wildlife moments. We saw the wildebeest crossing, lions, elephants, and rhinos up close. The guides stayed informed and engaging, and everything moved on schedule. The pricing felt fair for what we received. A solid choice for a full safari experience.

Jon was a wonderful guide! It was amazing to see so many beautiful animals up so close. The accommodations and food of this tour are definitely budget level so be prepared for that but the animals you see on are the same whether you stay expensive or budget.

What our customers ask about Great Migration Safaris
When is the best time to witness the Great Migration in East Africa?
The Great Migration moves between Tanzania and Kenya throughout the year. The best viewing is from July to October in the Masai Mara and December to March in the Serengeti. If you want to see the dramatic Mara River crossings, plan your trip for August. For calving season, visit the Southern Serengeti in February when temperatures reach 85°F (29°C). One TourRadar traveler recalls: "the migration herds were spectacular in Northern Serengeti" while another was amazed watching "thousands of wildebeest and zebras thundering across the plains."
What wildlife can I see during a Great Migration safari?
You'll see over a million wildebeest migrate alongside about 200,000 zebras, with predators following close behind. The 150-mile (240-kilometer) stretch of savanna is home to elephants, giraffes, lions, leopards and more than 500 types of birds. As one traveler put it: "We saw all the big 5 plus many other animals including huge elephant herds, lions, cheetahs, and thousands of wildebeests."
How close can I get to the migrating herds?
You'll ride in special 4x4 safari vehicles with pop-up roofs that let you get nice and close while staying safe. At Mara River crossing points, you can watch from about 50 feet (15 meters) away, following park rules. TourRadar travelers say the views are incredible - "We had front row seats to epic animal encounters" and the guides "position us in the best way to view the wildlife encounters."
How physically demanding are Great Migration safaris?
These safaris are pretty easy going. You'll spend most of your time watching wildlife from vehicles, with some optional walking at camps and village visits. Each day includes about 6-8 hours of game drives on rough roads. You might need to wake up early for special activities like balloon rides. One traveler who stayed at Serengeti Safari Lodge mentioned: "The vehicle was spacious, comfortable and had a good suspension system to ease the African massage."
What cultural experiences come with Great Migration tours?
You can visit Maasai villages, see traditional customs, and browse local markets, especially around Ngorongoro. One traveler shared their experience: "We visited the Hadzabe tribe which was quite interesting and enriching. Its a bit pricey at USD 20 but very interesting to see their traditional hunting techniques and learn about their culture."
What types of places can I stay during Great Migration tours?
You can choose from fancy lodges to safari tents. Mara Enkorok Luxury Camp offers comfortable tents with real beds and private bathrooms. For a more traditional feel, try Serengeti Wildebeest Camp. If you're watching your budget, places like Simba Campsite in Ngorongoro work well. For luxury, Amboseli Sopa Lodge gives you modern comforts plus amazing views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
How many days should I plan for a Great Migration safari?
Trips usually run between 3 and 14 days. You can do a quick 3-4 day visit to the Masai Mara, or spend 10-14 days exploring both Kenya and Tanzania. TourRadar travelers suggest staying at least 3 full days in the Masai Mara to really experience the migration. Longer trips, like the 13-day Kenya and Tanzania Budget Glamping Safari, give you time to visit several parks and better chances to see river crossings.
