This was not an actual birding trip. We went to larger parks around Kenya saw very few birds, and very few animals. Partially it was a very poor time to go, but the other part was that I was with a guide who was not a bird guide. The lodge at Masai Mara had an excellent staff with a superb chef. The only problem with that lodge was the Maasai that would come in to escort you to your room at night. They definitely expected tipping. The other accommodations were good, too excellent. Except for the accommodation at a Amboseli. The lodge at a Amboseli was extremely poor, I didn’t have hot running water for the first 36 hours I was there. everyone was vomiting because they got food poisoning at the buffet the second night the buffet at Amboseli consisted of food that had been left out for several meals. Everyone got sick. I had to cut my trip short and return home because of severe gastrointestinal problems from the food. I was unable to enjoy the wonderful accommodations at tsavo or to go on any game drives at that park and I also had to cancel a tour in Botswana On return to Nairobi, I was dropped off at the airport around 1 o’clock even though the terminal did not open until 7 o’clock and my flight was not until 11 PM. The guide had already been booked for another tour and was rushing home to spend a few hours asleep. Overall, this was not a good trip. I was not impressed with the company I wouldn’t recommend this trip to people who expect to be birding.

An incredible locally-owned birding safari with really unbeatable value. Jonathan took us all over southern Kenya for over a week, and was a great guide. I can't imagine going on any other safari because with Jonathan, we didn't just see the big animals but also identified hundreds of bird species and many plant species! It was especially rewarding experience because Jonathan didn't just point out the easily identifiable birds but when we encountered difficult birds like pipits or canaries where multiple species are very similar, he we was excited to get out our field guides and work through the subtle field markings to ID the birds out. More than just having a guide point out birds to us for our life list this felt like going out with an enthusiastic birder friend and really digging into how to ID the birds. By the end of the week I was able to ID tons of the species all on my own. Beyond the birds, Jonathan was very thoughtful, courteous, and positive. He took care of everything we needed. One of our party got sick one day and he went above and beyond to help them out. The lodging, food, and bike and boat excursions were all great and our route covered a huge area that was very diverse. For this price, you really could not do better than this tour.
