- Katie· October 30th, 2024I was in a group of five, at 81 probably the oldest Kiwi Experience participant you've ever had, but had a wonderful time because the group was warm and inclusive. Most of our group was not interested in white water rafting, bungie jumping, or zip lines but we enjoyed the rest. Our guide was friendly, helpful, and knew the countryside very well. I think he threw in a few little extras, lovely trails and viewpoints he had discovered, all close by and all quite wonderful. We enjoyed getting to know each other and parted friends.Show more
- Bilke· April 18th, 2024The tour itself was really nice and some of the extra activities were nice additions. However, the breakfast options were a bit limited if you can't eat yogurt, eggs or onions. The sleeping options were ok so far but no more. It was sometimes not possible to put your luggage in a room with four people without falling over it.Show more
- Zoltan· March 4th, 2024I participated in all the optional activities and the tour became one of the best ever. I strongly recommend to everyone to do everything! Don't save your money if you traveled through half of the globe. The included programmes are not enough, believe me. We saw so many beautiful places, especially in the south island. The bus was comfortable, we put the baggages into a separate trailer. The accomodations varied but all in all they were all good. I'll might come back one day!Show more

Asked on December 30th, 2025Is this tour something they could enjoy with their limited language skills? Is it easy enough for them to buy food etc and understand meeting places etc? What type of accommodation is provided? How many people in one room? Is there an option for a double room at all?
Kiwi ExperienceOperator•Written December 2025We have had people travel with us previously who have had limited english, and they seemed to be okay with navigating the language barrier through using different translator apps, and also people on the bus helping who may speak the same language as them. The meeting and departure places are written down on the app, and are also easy enough to find using Maps. In terms of buying/ ordering food, they should be okay. If they do get stuck, I'm sure someone will be more than happy to help them. We stay in dorm-styled rooms, generally with 6-8 people per room. If they did want a private/ or double room, this something that would need to be arranged separately and independently.

Asked on November 24th, 2025Is the Gumboot tour a classic tour with different drivers? Is there also an option to opt for single accommodation?
Kiwi ExperienceOperator•Written November 2025Our Classic tours series will mainly have the same driver guide, however may be the odd couple of days where there could be a different driver. All included accommodation is in dorm share and we are unable to provide single room upgrades unfortunately.

Traveler•Written November 2025Is it possible to pay for an upgrade/private room with the properties myself?
Kiwi ExperienceOperator•Written November 2025Yes no problem to upgrade your accommodation directly with the providers. Just let them know the date you're arriving and they should be able to book you in.

Asked on November 22nd, 2025How exactly does this specific tour work? There is a mention of the hop on hop off bus concept. Then about Kiwi Experience Driver Guides. With so many day options to choose from, is there truly a group for the trip that stick together and a guide helping the whole time, or is it more individual based with a different driver each day and the need to meet different people each day as well? If a group, how many people on average end up in a group typically?
Kiwi ExperienceOperator•Written November 2025The Gumboot tour is a fixed date tour that includes dorm share accommodation along with a Kiwi Experience guide who delivers commentary and helps with any additional bookings you may need. The bus will also have passengers that have purchased a hop on hop off bus pass so each day some gests will leave the tour and some will hop on.
