Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Flagstaff to South Kaibab Trail

You'll start with a 1.5-hour shuttle from Flagstaff heading to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. From there, the real work begins with a 7.5-mile hike down the South Kaibab Trail, dropping 4,800 feet as you make your way to the canyon floor. The trail itself offers views the whole way down, and by evening you'll reach Bright Angel Campground near the Colorado River where you'll set up for the night under cottonwood trees with water access.

  2. Day 2

    Indian Garden Campground

After breakfast, you'll head out early while it's still cool to tackle the Bright Angel Trail along the Colorado River. The path climbs 1,000 feet to Garden Creek, then continues upstream past Pipe Creek until you reach Indian Garden, a historic spring where the Havasupai once grew crops. It's a 4.5-mile hike with 1,500 feet of elevation gain total, ending at Indian Garden Campground in a shaded spot with water access for your second night.

  3. Day 3

    South Rim Exit

Start with breakfast and take your time before beginning the final push out via the Bright Angel Trail. You'll have 4.8 miles of hiking ahead with 3,000 feet of elevation gain, so the going gets tougher as you make your way back up to the South Rim. Once you reach the top, there's time to catch your breath and reflect on the whole experience before heading to the shuttle for a 1.5-hour ride back to Flagstaff.

Beware of the $100 cancellation fee that they take NO MATTER WHAT! I paid the $250 deposit for a trip 9 monhts away, and had to cancel two weeks later. No one else was even signed up for those dates. They insisted of taking nearly half of my deposit based upon the fine print that is written to be interpreted as applying to those who have paid the full payment. It is not explicity stated to refer to the minimum deposit to hold the spot. So, if you think it is even the slightest possibility that you may have to cancel, don't sign up with these guys if you aren't comfortable with losing $100.

North Rim Base Camp trip was an amazing hiking vacation. Great hiking with stunning views of the canyon, beautiful ponderosa pines, and wildlife. Wonderful to relax at the campsite at night with a fire, cooler temperatures and a fabulous meal! Definitely a memorable trip! Wildland Trekking is a first class operation.

    Asked on November 7th, 2023

Hello. Id like to go on the classic Grand Canyon hike. I have a few questions. I will be traveling with my father. He just turned 80.... he's in better shape than me. so, I'm not worried, but I do want to take a tour this time (he's hiked Grand Canyon a few times in the past...) to help with having campsites more available. What type of assistance do we have with setting up camp? What will we be required to carry ourselves? Do you have some things already down at camps? How much weight will be carrying? I'm looking for a trip that will not require a lot of weight to be carried in and out by us. Hope that makes sense... Thanks. Julie

The Grand Canyon Classic, Dec 9-11, 2023 would require a back weight of 30-35 pounds per person. Each person would be carrying a backpack, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, their personal items and clothing, water, snacks and about 5-7 pounds of the group food and/or cooking equipment. Campsites are not set up prior to the guests arrival. Guests do set up their own tents and gear, guides will assist as needed. Due to a temporary trail closure, this trip will be operated as an out-and-back hike on the South Kaibab Trail between December 1, 2023 and April 14, 2024. We will descend the South Kaibab Trail (same as normal Day 1). Then we will spend two nights at Bright Angel Campground, enjoying a wonderful day hike on Day 2 to a high plateau over the Colorado River, or to a charming desert oasis. On Day 3, we will ascend the South Kaibab Trail back to the South Rim (7.5 miles, 4800 feet elevation gain). This change increases the difficulty of this trip to a Level 4 during this time.
