What people love about Sicily Tours in May
- Sicilian Secrets - Mini Tour of Sicily 5 days
Overall a good tour, good pace & amount of free time, lots of churches but that’s Italy for you lol. Dinners in Catania were great- dinners in Palermo were average at best, typical for an included dinner on a tour but disappointing for Italian cuisine. Palermo hotel was awesome, Catania hotel was ok.
- Small Group Sicily Food & Wine Tour (Maximum 8 Guests)
I love cooking and everything related to it. I enjoyed cooking class in Taormina so much. We had a great opportunity to buy the freshest food right at the local market for our cooking classes. I was feeling like a real Sicilian. Our chef was an amazing professional. Now I know so much about traditional Sicilian food. I am going to prepare all the dishes I have learned there for my family. I am sure they are going to enjoy as well. I am sure all foodies are going to enjoy the food and wine tour. So I recommend it!
- Best of Sicily - 8 Days (Small Group Tour)
The big things all went well - good food and wine, nice accommodations and easy travel. There were a few details, however, that could have been handled differently to make the trip more enjoyable.. We were disappointed that none of the tour guides, or restaurants we visited had been informed of two allergies (gluten and shellfish) that we had notified the company of in advance. We ended up having to bring this up every time we sat down to eat and it often resulted in a delay in our meal or someone in our group not being able to eat part of the meal. More balance in the time spent touring would have been appreciated. There was notably more focus on Tourmina than the other cities we visited. The first couple days were packed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Tourmina, then the last couple days were relatively uneventful, with only a 2 hour tour the last day. Our last tour was moved from morning to late afternoon, and we were left to discover the city mostly on our own. We paid for 8 people and only 6 people came, which we did purposefully. It was a disappointment, then, when we were asked to pay for an ‘extra’ bottle of wine at lunch on two occasions. That seemed petty and unnecessary. Shouldn’t a party of 8 (for which we paid) have had two bottles of wine? The van was comfortable for 6 people, but would have been quite tight for 8 people. When our van was late picking us up to go to the airport, I tried contacting the service center that was supposed to be available 24/7 for emergencies. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a response until a week later!
What our customers ask about Sicily Tours in May 2026
What are the must-visit destinations in Sicily Islands during May?
May is a prime time to see Sicily's key attractions. Visitors should head to Mount Etna for guided volcano walks, Taormina's Greek theater and the Valley of Temples in Agrigento. A TourRadar traveler noted: "Visiting the Aeolian Islands in May was perfect - we could explore Lipari and Stromboli without the summer crowds and the views were spectacular." The Baroque architecture in Noto and Ragusa deserves attention along with the historic districts of Palermo and Catania. Hotels like Il Principe Hotel and Hotel Mediterraneo Palace put you close to these major sites.
What are the best coastal locations to visit in Sicily during May?
The coastal towns shine in May before peak season arrives. Taormina's Arathena Rocks Hotel provides easy access to local beaches while Cefalu draws visitors to its Norman cathedral and old town streets. Syracuse's Ortygia Island offers a mix of history and seaside charm. As one TourRadar traveler shared "Swimming at Giardini Naxos was perfect in May with fewer crowds than summer months." The clear waters around the Aeolian Islands particularly Lipari and Panarea make for excellent day trips.
Are the prices better for visiting Sicily Islands in May compared to peak summer months?
May offers significant savings with daily costs ranging from 200-350 USD about 30-40% lower than peak summer rates. For example the Sicilian Secrets tour runs 1633 USD in May compared to 2100 USD in August. Hotels such as Mercure Palermo Centro and Hotel Villa Angela in Taormina reduce their rates while maintaining full services. A TourRadar traveler confirmed "May was perfect for value - great weather without the summer crowds and prices."
What special events or festivals happen in Sicily Islands during May?
Cultural celebrations fill the May calendar. The Infiorata festival transforms Noto's streets with detailed flower petal artwork. Syracuse hosts the Greek Theater Festival bringing classical performances to ancient venues. Palermo celebrates the Feast of Santa Rosalia featuring local food and traditional music. TourRadar travelers mention "the local festivals added an authentic cultural dimension to our May visit."
What unique food experiences are available in Sicily Islands during May?
May brings peak seasonal ingredients to Sicilian tables. Visitors can join wine tastings at Mount Etna vineyards explore chocolate making in Modica or take street food walks in Palermo. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The food tours in May were incredible - we loved the arancini cooking class in Syracuse and the wine tasting at Florio Cellars in Marsala." Many hotels like Palazzo Sitano in Palermo organize food experiences featuring local specialties.
What is the weather like in Sicily Islands during May?
Temperatures hover between 20-25°C (68-77°F) across Sicily Islands in May. Coastal areas like Taormina and Syracuse see plenty of sun with minimal rain while Mount Etna stays cooler at around 15°C (59°F). TourRadar travelers report "The weather in May was perfect for exploring not too hot for walking but warm enough for enjoying the beaches in places like Cefalu." These conditions work well for visiting outdoor sites such as Agrigento's Valley of Temples.
How busy are the main tourist sites in Sicily Islands during May?
May strikes a good balance at popular attractions. While livelier than winter it's noticeably calmer than summer peak season. A TourRadar traveler observed: "The Valley of Temples and Taormina's Greek Theater were pleasantly busy but not overcrowded in May. We could enjoy sites like Mount Etna and the Palatine Chapel without long queues."
