What is the best time to be able to view the Northern lights? What is the cost to upgrade hotel stay?

The best time to see the Northern Lights in Iceland is between September and March, when the nights are long and dark. For the highest chances, October to February is ideal, with sightings most common between 9pm and 2am. Please note that hotel upgrade costs depend on the travel date. As an example, for 1–5 September: Standard single: USD $1,656 Comfort single: USD $2,636

Are there options to rent equipment? Additionally, how much for a single supplement? Also, if the weather is bad and activities get cancelled, will we receive a refund? Is there an option to join a Husky tour?

You can rent some equipment if you add on Solheimajokull Glacier Hike. That is the only add-on available. Itineraries may be subject to change at short notice due to severe weather conditions and certain outdoor activities/day trips may be cancelled during the winter season in Iceland. In these rare cases, where situations of force majeure apply, excursions/activities cannot be refunded. The local guides will try their best to find reasonable alternatives where and whenever possible.

Can a Spanish-speaking guide be provided for this tour?

This tour is operated in English only. We're unable to offer Spanish-speaking guides.

We would likely be in Reykjavik a couple of nights before day one, in order to catch up with jet lag so we would need the FLybus transfer from KEF earlier than day 1. Would that be a problem?

That is no worries, you can take the transfer a few days early.

What are the possible hotel accommodations that will be used based on the start date?

We have two levels of accommodation for this tour - the price you enquired for is for standard accommodations: Cabin Hotel - Reykjavik and Hotel Stracta - Hella. If you're interested in upgraded accommodations, you would likely be staying at Hotel Klettur in Reykjavik instead.

What time do I have to be at the airport, and once I arrive does someone pick up from the airport and take me to the hotel?

For the Land of the Northern Lights - 5 Days tour, there are included transfers via Skybus from the airport to your hotel, so you'll be picked up when you arrive. You don't need to arrive a day early, but you can if it's more convenient. Just note that there are no scheduled activities on the first day, so your tour effectively begins the following day.

Is the tour suitable for an 86-year-old man and a 77-year-old woman who has Parkinson's Disease?

This tour has no maximum age restriction so yes it is suitable for all ages. I would just take into consideration how severe the Parkinsons is? Does it effect movement and will it be difficult for you to walk and move about the tour? Although it is a medium paced easy physical rated tour, a moderate amount of walking is required during sightseeing, with some free time, offering a balance between activity and relaxation. As a general rule, you should be able to walk 2-kilometres without stopping.

Do you have any northern lights packages starting on the first or second

I've had another look through all of our Iceland departures, and unfortunately we don't have any northern lights tours that fit your exact window of 1–6 February. The only option we offer that begins on February 1st is the 8-day Northern Lights & Hidden Gems itinerary, but with your flight home on the 6th, it won't line up.

For this tour we do not have an escort that meats you at the airport as Reykjavik is quite easy to navigate. We include Fly Bus Shuttle that will take you from the airport to your hotel. The Blue Lagoon, the waterfalls, the mountains, geysers, Reykjavík Peninsula, Skoger Folk, and the tomato greenhouse. Moreover, we saw the Northern Lights. That was awesome. Hallthor made the tour bus ride very interesting. He told lots of historical stories and tales. We could have not asked for a better tour guide. He was very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. Andri was an excellent guide. He shared a lot of information, was humorous and worked hard to keep us happy. Safety and making sure our needs were met was important to him. The Hotel Cabin is clean and has great staff making sure you use a suitcase that can go under a raised bed as the rooms here are much smaller than the other hotel that is bigger and clean as well. Icelanders are kind and helpful. I am happy with the tour and will have amazing memories of beautiful places I saw this week. I would love to return in the summer and see more of Iceland with Andri again. When you email, Tourradar answers very quickly. The tour is worth the cost and even if you don’t see the Northern lights due to weather issues do not forget the other beautiful places you got to see. Bring waterproof lined clothes, good gloves and boots, as well as a disposable rain poncho (maybe hand warmers too). We were warm in the hotels, van and restaurants. Read about the cost of restaurants and sweaters so you know the cost difference . I highly recommend the tour.Show more

This review is based on a number of interactions with the company. booked a tour with them and within 7 days I canceled the booking due to a surgery being scheduled that I have been waiting 18 months for. I paid for package upfront and in full, over £1800. I asked it to be canceled and refunded because I dont know if I woukd recover in time. The surgery is in such a place that I can not walk or hike. On the go tours, is trying to keep £300 of the money as a cancellation fee. It took them over 20 days to refund me some of the money as it has not been paid back in full. Despite thier "terms and conditions" contradicting many areas of the EU consumer act, customer retails act and an number of other consumer laws. I request to speak to a director and its going of 30 days with no response. I would like to know anyone else that has receive such horrible service from the before, on or after thier experience with OnTheGoTours. I am gathering names and accounts in order to prosue my only legal action against the directors themselves ------------------------------------ I have recieved your response and still find this unacceptable. Under EU law, passengers have strong rights to refunds for cancelled travel, typically within 7 to 14 days, with the right to refuse vouchers. Key regulations include EU 261/2004 for air travel and the Package Travel Directive for bundled trips, ensuring cash reimbursement or re-routing options when services are cancelled or significantly delayed. Key EU Travel Refund Regulations: Air Passenger Rights (Regulation 261/2004): If a flight is cancelled or delayed (over 5 hours), passengers can choose between full reimbursement within 7 days or re-routing to their destination. Package Travel Directive (PTD): If a package holiday is cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances (like health crises), travelers have the right to a full refund within 14 days, often via insolvency protection schemes. Rail, Bus, and Coach Regulations: Passengers are entitled to re-routing or a refund within 14 days for significant delays or cancellations. Vouchers vs. Cash: Passengers are not obligated to accept vouchers and can insist on a cash refund. As my reason for canceling was unavoidable health cicumstances and since you have doubled down on your responce and terms on conditions. I shall let those who govern your industry and the relavent governing agencies in the countries you opperate in, know of this interaction and that you are trying to impose terms and conditions that you think makes you above all local and governing laws.Show more
