    4.0 - Good

I took this tour as part of a stop over flying Iceland Air from the US to Great Britain. It worked well. The beginning of October is the start of the Northern Lights. We were fortunate to see some the night before our tour began (it was recommended to book Northern lights tours before and after the main tour to optimize our chances to see the lights) Unfortunately we had rain most of our 3 days but did see some lights one of the nights. However, the tour was interesting in and of itself. The accommodations were clean adequate given the price. I'd do a stop over again- maybe take a longer tour of the whole island. Just be prepared to pay a lot for meals.

Great trip...if you're thinking of driving yourself...Don't...I'm from Wisconsin and use to driving in the snow...this is a whole different ball game. This company was great...There isn't much down time, you are constantly seeing one spectacular after another. Simone was a riot. Another great thing was this was small group travel. 24 total people. I saw lots of tours were people were stacked on top of each other. Staying at hotel cabin. Well..umm...The rooms with 4 digits..nice..three digits were college dorms with high schoolers running around.

Our tour guide, Erin (sp?) was excellent. Her caring and concern for our well being went above and beyond the norm. She was so insightful, informative, good natured, and adaptable that we soon forgot about the petty annoyances that accompany every trip. The tour was well rounded (something for everyone), picturesque, and managed a comfortable pace.

    2.0 - Rather poor

I am writing regarding my recent trip booked through On The Go Tours which was called “Land of the Northern Lights.” I have detailed below a number of issues with the tour and the way in which it was conducted. I am offering you the opportunity to make the situation right before giving my final review of both the tour and your company. Second, the opportunities to view the northern lights (the primary goal of the trip by name) were inadequate. When conditions were not right off of our hotel’s back balcony, we should have at least been driven to some place with a better chance to see them. AND there should have been a planned opportunity to see them on the first and last days to make up for the farce that this was a 5 day rather than a 3 day trip. Third, although the price of the optional hike was clearly listed in our itinerary, that was emailed to us multiple times prior to our trip as 12000ISK, we were charged 14000ISK and were told that the price had been that amount for the last six months. We had figured this hike into the total budget for this trip and it fitting into our budget was the primary reason we booked this tour. Fourth, the itinerary did not provide information about opportunities that would not be available in the winter season such as going on trails behind the waterfalls. Finally, we did not proceed to our last stop on the parliamentary plains which was a main point of interest to us.

First , i like to warn everyone that is is only a 3day, 4 nights. It is misleading or more accurate to say wrong advertisement. First day is arrival in Reykjavik. We were on our own. Stayed in Hotel Cabin first night & last night of the tour. 3 full days of Tour with our excellent guide Katrina. She is awesome and surely very knowledgeable about Iceland. Stayed in Hella for 2 nights - Arthus cabin. The 5th day is again literally on our own How could it be 5days 4 nights when its actually 3days 4 nights? I am not satisfied at all because I paid for 5 days 4 nights tour and my family got actually 3 days & 4 nights. This is illegal. It also said that the rooms had small kitchenette, Hotel Cabin is very tiny room, with a shower that fits a 120lb person comfortably. If you are at least 150 lbs, you could easily hit the shower walls like me. No coffee maker in the room. You have to pay for it to use one. You can rent a hair dryer, they will return your deposit when you return the dryer.

Very knowledgeable & resposible guide/driver. Tour well organized, but sighting of the lights really is dependent on the weather. Our best sighting was actually on the optional northern lights tour after our trip. Our driver actually assisted in a road emergency in front of us, which is really commendable.

The trip was everything and more! The driver-guide, AnnaLaura was easy to approach, very knowledgeable and entertaining. Lots to see and do although would have liked more time at a few more places/stops. The budget hotel for the first and last was just that - Budget! Approx inches around 2 singe beds pushed together and a small metal open wardrobe with 4 hangers. Only place for suitase was under the bed! The cabins at Arrhus were adequate and very warm! Food stops and restaurants had fabulous choices cateting to all tastes. Would go back again!

Had an amazing time. Couldn't ask for more. It was a short trip covering a lot of places but that's how I wanted it to be. The guide Anna was perfect. Very knowledgeable, helpful and organized the trip very well. Something more than expected was that I got actually good vegetarian food at free places. So the food stops were good too.

The tour was a wonderful way of seeing Iceland. Our tour guide was very informative and helpful the entire time. The accommodations were a bit small but clean. We got to experience the Northern lights one of the nights and it was amazing!

Where and when would we meet our tour guide on the first day?

Day 1 is essentially an arrival day, where you can arrive in at any time. There is a free shuttle bus from the guesthouse to downtown Reykjavik at 19:00 which returns at 22:00. Perhaps you would want to take advantage of this and make sure that you were checked in by 7:00pm (19:00). This evening there is also an optional northern lights evening tour from Reykjavik. These tours can be booked on the same day and they start at 21:00 or 22:00, depending on season. Pick up from the accommodation starts 30 minutes prior.
