Itinerary
- Day 1
Cusco to Capuliyoc - Chiquisca - Rosalinas Beach - Santa Rosa
You'll start before dawn with a 4:30 a.m. pickup from your Cusco hotel. Private transport takes you to Capuliyoc where you meet your guide and porters, and you get your first look at the Apurímac Canyon. From there, the hiking begins on well-maintained trails for about 6 to 7 hours as you cover 15 km heading down into the valley. The landscape shifts as you descend, with vegetation and temperature changing around you. After stopping for lunch along the way, you'll reach Santa Rosa camp by evening. You'll have dinner and settle into your tent for the night, tired but glad you made it through that first demanding day.

- Day 2
Santa Rosa to Marampata - Choquequirao Archaeological Complex
After eating a full breakfast, you'll tackle the toughest climb of the entire trek, pushing from Santa Rosa up to Marampata. This section is hard work, but the views open up as you go higher, showing the valley, the Apurímac River, and the mountain range stretching out. You'll notice the air getting cooler and the vegetation getting greener as you climb. Once you reach Marampata, you get a break and then continue to Choquequirao, the archaeological complex. You'll spend several hours walking through terraces, temples, ceremonial areas, and old agricultural zones. If the weather cooperates, you might see condors soaring above the canyon around sunset. After exploring this remote Inca site, you head back to Marampata for dinner with views of the valley spread out around camp.

- Day 3
Marampata - Santa Rosa - Rosalinas Beach - Chiquisca
The day starts with a sunrise over the canyon before you begin heading back down from Marampata to Santa Rosa. This part of the trail gives you different perspectives on the Apurímac River below. After resting briefly in Santa Rosa, you'll continue downward to Playa Rosalinas where the river invites you to wade in and cool off. You'll have lunch here and eat something good after your efforts. Then you start climbing again, a gradual but persistent push upward toward Chiquisca. By afternoon you'll arrive at the camp, set up among vegetation and warmer air, have dinner, and rest for the night.

Chiquisca to Capuliyoc - Saywite - Conoc Hot Springs - Cusco
You'll climb toward Capuliyoc after breakfast, soaking in final views of the Apurímac Canyon and the mountains you've crossed over the past days. At Capuliyoc you part ways with your mule team and board private transport back to Cusco. On the drive, you'll stop at the Saywite monolith, a stone carving that shows how the Inca understood water flow and farming systems. Then you continue to the Conoc hot springs where you can soak and let your tired muscles relax. You'll arrive back at your Cusco hotel in the afternoon, marking the end of your trek through this remote canyon country.
