Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Cologne

You'll arrive in Cologne and have the full day to explore before your 17:00 ship departure. The cathedral here is the main draw, so plan to spend time inside and around it. Beyond that, there's plenty to wander through in the old town with its various monuments and shops. Grab lunch somewhere along the Rhine if you get a chance. By late afternoon, head back to the ship to settle in for your cruise departure.

    Optional Activities

    • Explore Cologne cathedral city and monuments
    Landmarks
    Cologne Cathedral
    Itinerary Image 1Itinerary Image 2Itinerary Image 3
  2. Day 2

    Willemstad

The ship pulls into Willemstad at 11:00, giving you most of the day in this quiet former Dutch fortress village. Walk through the streets to get a feel for the place and keep an eye out for the characteristic Dutch windmill that's typical of the area. You'll have time for lunch and some leisurely exploring before the 22:00 departure, so this isn't a rushed stop.

    Antwerp

You arrive early in Antwerp at 07:00, so grab breakfast and coffee before heading into the city. Known as the 'Diamond City', it's got strong art and culture scenes worth checking out. The Belgian specialties here are worth trying too, so hunt down some waffles, chocolates, and chips at local spots. With an 18:00 departure, you've got a solid day to see the main attractions without feeling rushed.

This city has roughly 7,500 listed historical buildings, which is the highest concentration in the Netherlands. The mix of old architecture alongside modern elements creates an interesting contrast, and you'll notice the relaxed vibe mixed with busy areas. Head out right after lunch and explore until around 17:30 before heading back for the 18:00 departure.

Customer Reviews

  • Rhine Metropolises 2026 reviewer 1
    · November 2nd, 2021
We were the only two International passengers on the A-Rosa Flora that departed Cologne, Germany on October 27, 2021 for a six day cruise on the Rhine River. This cruise was to have taken us through Antwerp, Amsterdam and Düsseldorf before returning us to Cologne on Monday, November 1. Unfortunately, five hours after departing Cologne, at approximately 11:15pm, our ship was involved in an accident (collision) with another ship on the river. We were initially told by the crew to remain in our cabins, that there was some kind of “crew training exercise” taking place. We sat idle on the river for several hours before the ship was moved, under its own power, to a dock in Duisburg the following morning. We were then informed that due to the “accident”, the A-Rosa Flora was no longer seaworthy and that our cruise was over and to start packing our bags to leave the ship. Later, that same afternoon, October 28, we were placed on a bus, taken back to Cologne (where we had started our cruise the previous day) and given a hotel room for 1 night. We haven’t heard another word from them since. Granted, it’s only been a week, but someone, either A-Rosa, the ships owner, or Tour Radar, the booking company, should be reaching out to us. There is, after all, the small matter of a refund (over $1900 US), that has yet to be addressed, let alone, resolved). We have heard NOTHING, from no one, about anything. We also had pre-paid tours in Amsterdam that we couldn’t cancel which means we’re out that money as well. And….not a word from A-Rosa. No refunds, no nothing. Not even an “official” apology. Leaving the ship, we were handed a memo in German and told that we would receive an email the following day in English. It never happened. This cruise was the only reason we traveled as far as we did. Considering what we went through, I don’t think that a refund, and some sort of apology, is too much to expect. This whole thing has been handled poorly.
