- JSJeffrey· December 6th, 2025This was a reasonable itinerary, but we came away a bit disappointed with the cruise and the quality of the guided tours. Customer service on the cruise was less than satisfactory, with personnel arbitrarily enforcing strict seating policies at the self-serve buffet despite the fact many tables were available. No water was provided on a 5 day 4 night cruise, instead selling small water bottles at literally 30 times (yes, thirty times) the going price in Egypt. The cruise’s business model of confining its guests to a boat in a hot country and overcharging them for their means of survival struck us as flagrantly extortionate. Apart from this, the cruise was good, with a comfortable, quiet room, reasonably good food at the self-serve buffet, and decent if not luxurious rooftop deck for taking in the view, though we were not expecting the high level of air pollution that appears to plague the entire Nile valley. The guides for our tours were congenial and mostly well-intended, but English language skills were mediocre and somewhat hindered our ability to effectively learn the rich history of the monuments we had the privilege of exploring. Enthusiasm of the guides was also somewhat lacking, and it felt mostly like they were going through the motions. More often than not, we were jealous of the other tours in our vicinity when visiting the monuments, and sometimes preferred to lean in to hear what their guides had to say. The hot air balloon ride was a highlight of the trip and something I would recommend to Luxor visitors. If I were to plan this trip anew, I would organize my own stays in Luxor (west bank) and Aswan (Elephantine Island), and perhaps only do the cruise portion of this trip via a tour operator, while stocking up on water in anticipation of the abusive pricing of water on the cruise. I would organize day tours to sights in the vicinity of Luxor and Aswan through my hotels on location (almost all hotels at every price point offer this). We do not regret taking this tour, but would not recommend it to other travellers.Show moreTrip date: November 2025

But, to make this experience even better was our guide to the temples. Hatem was knowledgeable and very informative. Not just explaining and pointing out the intricacies and importance of the temples, but also engaging in conversation and encouraging questions.
