- Day 2
Chimpanzee Trekking
You'll head into either Kalinzu Forest or Kyambura Gorge to search for chimpanzees. Unlike mountain gorillas, these chimps spend most of their time in the trees, so you'll be looking up through the dense forest canopy to find them. The timing depends on your group size, so your trek might happen in the afternoon on day 1, or during the morning or afternoon on day 2, or in the morning on day 3.

Lake Bunyonyi and Mountain Gorilla Trekking
Drive to Lake Bunyonyi, which sits among islands and surrounded by lush forest and rolling hills. Over the next three days you'll do a mountain gorilla trek in smaller groups, which helps protect the gorillas. On days you're not trekking, you can take boat trips to islands, go bird-watching, visit local villages, or paddle canoes. Gorilla trekking means hiking anywhere from 30 minutes to 6-7 hours through Bwindi National Park (or sometimes Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda) through steamy jungle to find gorilla families, then watching them from a safe distance for about an hour. You'll need decent fitness for this hike.
