  2 stars: Great guides and a very responsive coordinator, but unreliable pickups and poor communication I booked this trip at short notice as a solo female traveller with almost no Spanish. There were positives, but the planning and pickup problems were significant enough that I can only give 2 stars. What went well- Paola, my coordinator, was extremely responsive and helpful, and answered every query promptly. I really wish I could rate the trip 5-star just becaause of her. She helped me with domestic flights that matched the itinerary and coordinated to help confirm itinerary the next day. She also helped me with some special requests I had. The tour covered almost everything promised in the itinerary, although the itinerary kept changing, sometimes on the very last day, which was annoying but understandable. The guides were generally good to excellent, and I learned a lot about Peruvian culture from them. Note on language- My tour was booked as English-language, but the operator uses local tour groups. Guides spoke both Spanish and English, and on some days I was placed in groups where nobody spoke English. If socialising with your tour group matters to you, consider this before booking. What let the trip down- On 2 of my 4 transfers, nobody came to pick me up, and I had no information about my hotel or next steps. Both times this happened at a train station, and I had to contact Paola to find out what to do. - Aguas Calientes: I arrived late at night. I could probably have walked to my hotel if I'd had the address, but after I messaged Paola, someone arrived within 15 minutes. - Ollantaytambo: I arrived after sunset and needed a 1.5-hour drive to Cusco. Unlike other guests, no one was waiting with a board with my name on it. After I contacted Paola, a driver arrived about 25 minutes later. During that drive, the driver picked up local passengers who said they were going to Cusco. My transfers were supposed to be either private or shared with fellow passengers only and as a solo woman travelling at night, I felt unsafe with this. When I raised this with Paola, she definitely took it seriously but I think she was lied about the situation by the driver as she later told me that the passengers were "tour guides" or "fellow travellers", which clearly wasn't the case. An honest explanation would have been far better than one that didn't match what I saw. My advice to the operator: Please confirm pickup details (driver name, contact number) with every guest in advance, especially for late arrivals. Tell guests upfront if a transfer will be shared, and be honest when something goes wrong. Solo travellers arriving at night especially need to know what to expect.Show more
