    Holly

    Asked on May 16th, 2024

I have never taken a hiking trip before. And although I'm a healthy 80 year old woman, I'd like to know the possible degree of difficulty of the Vermont Trek.

    • Wildland TrekkingOperatorWritten May 2024

The Zealand Falls Hut to Hut is considered moderate to difficult. It is a level 4 out of 5. This includes carrying a pack of about 15-25lbs depending on how light you pack. The trail is dirt and rock but well traveled. There are rocks and tree roots sticking out along the way that need to be stepped over. There are a few spots where you are walking close to the edge. The trails can be steep as there are no switchbacks. There is a 1200' ascent in about .7 miles on day one. This day can take some groups 10 or more hours. We recommend a high level of fitness including balance and endurance. This would be a very challenging first time hike. The Northeast in general is pretty challenging. If you are open to other locations, please let us know. The West (Rocky Mountains, California, and Washington) tend to have some easier hiking with more maintained trails.

  • C

    Chelsea

    Asked on May 10th, 2023

What is the level of hiking experience needed for this trip. Also, I'm very afraid of heights so I wondered about the height of the trails.

    • Wildland TrekkingOperatorWritten May 2023

This trip is considered a level 4 trip. This means you would be carrying a 15-25 pound pack depending on how much you bring with you personally. You can expect to be hiking up to 8 miles per day and elevation changes daily as great as 3,000 feet. The trails themselves are extremely rugged and may involve scrambling with hands and feet on very steep terrain. For the most part cliff edges and drop offs are roughly 4-9 feet away at all times, except for a few sections where the trail is a little closer to edges.

  • T

    Trevor

    Asked on January 21st, 2022

I was wondering if you know the way to get to the starting point from Boston
