The route over mountains peaks and valleys ends with a dramatic landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport on its steep hillside. After meeting your crew and handling final preparations, trekking begins through Lukla village toward Phakding. The walk is deliberately short today to help your body adjust to the altitude, and there's an option to visit a nearby monastery if you're interested.

Thamserku comes into view on your right, and the route passes through quiet woodlands with pine, fir, and juniper. Clear weather might show Mt. Everest above the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. You'll cross five suspension bridges including the famous Hillary Bridge as the trail winds through Sagarmatha National Park, then climbs steeply to reach Namche Bazaar, the main trading hub and gateway to Everest.

You'll reach Phorte first, where a tree nursery started by Edmund Hillary's Himalayan Trust operates. From there, a balcony path leads down to the river, across a bridge, then up a steep section to Thame, an old trade junction on the route toward Tibet through the Nangpa La pass.

The Khumjung valley spreads out below, ringed by Kongde, Thamserku, and the sacred Khumbila. In Khumjung village itself, you can see the Edmund Hillary School and Khumjung Monastery, which keeps what locals claim is a Yeti's head.
