  Incredible experience! The team at Great Lake Expedition did an amazing job facilitating our ascent to the rooftop of Africa, from booking and planning through the climb up and down. John, Robert and every single porter on the team were incredible in showing us how to safely enjoy the beauty and challenge of summiting the mountain. One of our biggest challenges was making sure we didn’t disappoint the chef, by eating too little and causing him to think we didn’t like the food! We were constantly amazed at how the team worked to accommodate us to make the difficult challenge that would be faced as easy and safe as possible, ensuring everyone knew when and where to push but also checking our pulse and O2 readings every day along with documenting symptoms. Every detail that could ever be thought of has been practiced and inspired awe while seeing it unfold in less forgiving environments as the days progress.   I climbed Kili with my son in this year. We reached the summit and a big part of that was due to the guiding company we chose. Yonathan and his team are amazing. They met us at our hotel, went through the whole journey with us, checked our gear and introduced us to our guide Aricko. So we left Moshi confident we were prepared. Then on the mountain Aricko was a standout amongst all the other guides from other companies. Health checks twice a day, constantly keeping a real close eye on how we were doing, finding the small problems and fixing them before they become BIG problems. No surprise we were one of only a few groups to reach the summit the night we went to the peak. These guys and their teams are professional, friendly and helpful in so many ways. Thanks Yonathan and Aricko for making our climb a fantastic celebration of my 50th birthday.Show more

  I went on the 7 day Machame Route ascent of Kilimanjaro with Great Lake Expedition with summit ascent on Christmas morning. Great Lake Expedition was the absolute number one. Their equipment (tents and sleeping mats) is top notch.!The camp manager always selected great locations for overnight. The cook made delicious, varied and abundant meals, and our waiter, Shabani, always made sure we ate enough with second servings - they kept us fueled and in shape for the long and difficult trek. The assistant guides Muntari and the chief guide (Yonathan) were always diligent with the twice daily health checks, always set a great pace and offered positive encouragement. Needless to say they were extremely knowledgeable about the mountain, ecosystem and everything Kilimanjaro. Everybody in our group made the summit. We all observed how other outfitters ran their camps and treated their clients and I enthusiastically recommended Great Lake Expedition as the best I have seen on the mountain. And their extraordinary service extended before and after the trek..Show more

  First of all, we would like to say thanks to all the team- including our guides, porters, chefs and all the other support! During our expedition everyone was extremely professional, and took a great care of us. If not that, we would have never made it to the top!! Guides are skilled leaders with a great experience, and knowledge of the Kilimanjaro National Park. Chefs made their best to give us best food possible. Meals were served by extremely kind service. Everyday our duffles bags were in the camp before us, thanks to the porters, and camp managers. I can’t miss the part of the beauty of the Kilimanjaro itself, it’s my amazing!   I spent seven days hiking the Kilimanjaro with Great Lake Expedition. I was first a little worried about how trekking alone would make me feel as a female traveler, but Muntari, the lead guide, and the staff have always kept me company and taken care of me while I've been hiking. Despite feeling like giving up at one point, Muntari helped me reach the summit, and the trek was fantastic with breathtaking vistas. I'm really appreciative since he has inspired me to persevere and made it simpler for me to accomplish the goal.Additionally, I loved Modi's daily recipes and was thankful to John for always taking care of me while I was at the camp.Fantastic experience and staff!.Show more

  We made a reservation for the Seven-day Machame route with Great Lake Expedition. From beginning to end, our interaction with the operator was positive, educational, and full of useful hints and counsel. The true heroes of our journey were our porters and hiking crew, who were just incredible. We were treated like "royalty" the entire time, and their expertise and experience were invaluable. They went above and above our expectations and put in many hours to make our trip truly remarkable. Based on my experience, I would give them a score of 20 out of 20 in every category; a 5-star rating seems excessively low. Reaching the top was the "icing on the cake," so thank you to Robert, Muntari, and the team for making our goal attainable. The support and aid provided during the journey was priceless.   We had an awesome time with Great Lake Expedition in Moshi, Tanzania! Me and my wife did the Machame Route up to the top of Kilimanjaro, highest point in Africa and it will be one of my best memories of life. Most because of the fantastic group of hikers, porters and the best of all: the guides. If you plan to go there ask for Ariko, Muntari and Robert to be your guides and the lovely Juma that served us all meals during these days and they all spread happiness and you felt really secure with them. After Kilimanjaro we went on a two day Safari, there we had with us two persons from the hiking group. We had the pleasure to be guided by Our guide that showed us a lot of animals like lion, elephants, giraffe and many more. The hotels we stayed at both in Moshi and by the Safari were amazing and we fully enjoyed them. I have nothing to complain about during the whole vacation, everything went really good from we boarded the plane (Ethiopian Airlines) in Sweden until we rich Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania.Show more
