Itinerary
- Day 1
Nairobi to Hell's Gate National Park to Lake Naivasha
Your hotel pickup happens at 7am in Nairobi, then you'll drive down the Great Rift Valley with a photo stop at the viewpoint. By 9:30am you're at Hell's Gate where you can choose between a safari vehicle game drive or a 7km bike ride through the park followed by a walking safari through the gorges. After that, you'll visit a local Maasai community to learn about traditional life, then grab lunch at the resort. The afternoon includes a 1-hour boat tour on Lake Naivasha looking for hippos and birds, with a 4pm return to your hotel.

After an early breakfast, your driver takes you on a 5-hour drive to Masai Mara's open grassland. This reserve has excellent game viewing and bird-watching, and you'll arrive in time for lunch at camp. From there, you'll head out for an afternoon game drive to start exploring the reserve and its wildlife.

Masai Mara
You'll spend your full day exploring Masai Mara searching for the Big Five. Picnic lunches happen in the reserve as you wander through the landscape along the Mara river. Optional evening activities include a visit to a Maasai village cultural tour or an early morning hot air balloon safari if you're interested.

An early morning game drive lets you see the early hunters, then you'll have breakfast. After that, you depart for Serengeti through the Isebania border, arriving at lunchtime to process visas. Your Tanzanian driver meets you with a 4WD Land Cruiser, then you take an evening game drive en route to the lodge before checking in for the night.

Serengeti to Ngorongoro
After a relaxing morning and an early lunch, you proceed to Ngorongoro where you'll spend the night on the crater rim. The journey takes you from Serengeti's plains to the volcanic crater landscape of Ngorongoro.

Ngorongoro to Moshi

Machame Camp
You'll drive from your Moshi hotel to Machame Gate, passing through the village of Machame on the lower mountain slopes. After leaving the park gate, you'll walk through dense rainforest on a winding trail up a ridge until you reach Machame Camp at 9,350 feet elevation.

Machame Camp to Shira Camp
You'll leave the rainforest glades and continue on an ascending path up a steep, rocky ridge. The trek takes you through heather and open moorlands on the Shira Plateau, then across a large river gorge before arriving at Shira 2 Camp at 12,500 feet elevation.

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
You'll continue east up a ridge then head southeast towards the Lava Tower, a 300-foot tall volcanic rock formation. After that, you'll descend through the Senecio Forest down to Barranco Camp at 13,000 feet. The day begins and ends at the same elevation, but the higher altitude acclimatization time helps your body adjust.

Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
You start by descending into a ravine to the base of the Great Barranco Wall, then climb the steep 900-foot cliff. From the top, you'll cross a series of hills and valleys before descending sharply into Karanga Valley. One more steep climb leads to Karanga Camp. This shorter acclimatization day helps you adjust to higher altitude.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
The final summit push starts very early at midnight. You'll trek through the night passing through Ratzel and Rebmann glaciers to reach Uhuru Peak at 5,896 meters, the highest point in Africa. After relaxing and watching the sunrise, you'll start descending to Mweka Hut where you'll spend the night recovering from your summit achievement.

Moshi to Amboseli National Park
