August is the rainy season in Vietnam, but the weather patterns differ greatly across the country. The heavy, persistent rains are much more common in the South. Here in the North, where your tour will take place, rain is possible but not too often. The distances are flexible to cater to your fitness and how you are feeling each day. The 50-100 km range is a general guideline for what's possible. We will tailor the ride's length and daily elevation gain based on your preference, the terrain, and the day's weather conditions. Day 1 of the itinerary begins in the evening with the overnight train from Hanoi to Lao Cai (the gateway to Sapa), which departs around 10:00 PM. We pick up from your hotel in Hanoi around 8:30pm

Hello, We did the Northwest Vietnam Cycling to the "Roof of IndoChina" from 05/06/25 to 11/06/2025. Initially we had booking troubles and were told by Tour radar operator that the tour is overbooked (we later realised we were the only couple for the entire tour). After multiple attempts Tourradar was able to contact the local tour operator "Bravochina" to confirm the just handful of days before the tour started. We had to pay the increase flight fares for booking last minute however we were still stayed positive for the tour ahead. The communication from Bravochina was poor and minimum. The overnight train journey was good however we were never told that we will be sharing the cabin with two other people. We would have happily paid extra for the whole cabin and for our privacy and space. The train conductor almost didn't let us board the train as he wasn't happy that ticket was booked via third party. We were picked by driver at Sapa train station and dropped at the hotel at 7am. The hotel told us we cant check in until 2pm. You cant expect people to do an overnight journey and wait till 2pm without access to toilet and shower. We paid extra for early check in and for upgraded room due to leaking bathroom. Again this was not communicated that we have to wait till 2pm to check in. Our local tour guide was excellent and was knowledgeable. He took us few beautiful villages and we saw raw beauty and amazing Vietnamese locals. We were unable to cycle couple of days due to rain however that's not under anyone's control and we understand that's just how things are during travelling. On our second last day, we were in the car for over 16 hours due to Ferry being non-operational and we had to take a different route. It was evident the ferry would have been non-operational for a while due to low water levels, therefore a lack of coordination and communication led us to this long day, whereby the start and end points were only 72 KM. We missed out on dinner and got to our accommodation close to midnight. Next day there was no communication from Bravochina again and the driver arrived 3 hours late along with seven other people in a bus. Close to Hanoi the driver transferred us to a car and the car dropped us at the wrong hotel. The driver refused to drop us at the correct hotel and we had to get a taxi. This is not to say there were some great moments too such as seeing a fully operational traditional water mill and trying out native fruits straight from the tree. Macau Chau accommodation was good too. Overall this tour has potential to be one of the best cycling tour however poor communication and poor handling has given us a bad experience. The money we paid was not worth the tour. Our first time with both Tourradar and Indochina and we haven't had a good experience. CheersShow more
