- Day 1
Cusco
You'll land in Cusco and get a cup of coca tea right away to help your body adjust to the altitude. After settling in, spend the afternoon on your own walking around Plaza de Armas and checking out the mix of colonial and Inca buildings throughout the city. Grab some Peruvian food while you're out exploring, then head back to your hotel to rest up.

Cusco
Start with a guided tour of Cusco's main historical sites. You'll see the Cathedral first, then move on to Qoricancha where the Temple of the Sun shows both Inca and Spanish influences side by side. After that, visit Sacsayhuaman fortress to see the massive stone walls, then walk through Qenqo, Puca Pucará, and Tambomachay. Each place tells you something different about how the Incas built things and practiced their rituals.

Cusco
Head out early for a hike to Humantay Lagoon, where you'll find a turquoise lake surrounded by snow-covered mountains. The trek starts at Soraypampa and goes through alpine terrain with local plants and wildlife. When you reach 4,200 meters, the peaceful lagoon comes into view. Spend time taking photos, then grab a filling lunch at a local spot before heading back.

Cusco to Sacred Valley
Travel to the Sacred Valley and start at Pisac Market, where local vendors sell colorful textiles and handmade items. Pick up some souvenirs if you want, then sit down for a buffet lunch in Urubamba. From there, go to Ollantaytambo fortress, an Inca stronghold built into the mountainside with terraces and temples carved from stone. You'll finish the day in the Sacred Valley with tall peaks all around you.

- Day 5
Sacred Valley
Check out two Inca sites that show how advanced their engineering was. First, walk through Moray's circular terraces, an ancient testing ground where Incas experimented growing crops at different heights. Then go to Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of salt ponds cover the mountain like a white pattern. Locals still harvest salt here using methods their ancestors taught them centuries ago.

- Day 6
Sacred Valley to Aguas Calientes to Cusco
Leave early in the morning for a scenic train ride to Aguas Calientes, then take a bus up to Machu Picchu. When the fog lifts, you'll see the citadel sitting high above the Urubamba River. Your guide will explain the Temple of the Sun, the Intihuatana stone, and other mysteries of the site. Spend time walking through the terraces and temples, then return to Cusco by evening.

Cusco
Set out for Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), where different minerals create colorful bands of red, yellow, and green across the slopes. The hike is tough but the views of the Andes and Ausangate peak make it worth it. Take your time photographing the surreal landscape, then have lunch at a local restaurant to recover. This route takes you somewhere less crowded but just as memorable.
