Itinerary
- Day 1
Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Your journey starts with a drive to Marangu Gate where you'll complete registration before hitting the trail. You'll hike for 4 to 5 hours through dense rainforest, keeping an eye out for monkeys and birds while your guide explains the local plants and wildlife. By afternoon you'll reach Mandara Hut for your first night on the mountain.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
Today's trek takes 6 to 8 hours on a steeper path that moves through montane forest and gradually opens into moorland with rolling hills and giant heather trees. You'll see some unusual alpine plants here, like giant lobelias and groundsels that grow up to 16 feet tall. After arriving at Horombo Hut, a cluster of cabins, you can clean up with hot water before dinner.

Landmarks Horombo Hut - Day 3
Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut
You'll spend this day letting your body adjust to the altitude with light hiking near the hut. Most trekkers do a 4 to 5 hour roundtrip to Mawenzi Saddle to check out the cool Zebra Rocks formations. The key here is drinking lots of water and moving slowly. 'Pole, pole' as the locals say. You'll head back to Horombo Huts for dinner and a good night's rest.

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
You'll rise early to catch the sunrise, then have breakfast before trekking through heathland. The landscape shifts to something almost moon-like as you get closer to the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Watch for altitude sickness symptoms and let your guide know if something feels off. As you near Kibo Hut, views of the summit start coming into sight. This basic shelter is where you'll sleep tonight before tomorrow's summit attempt.

- Day 5
Summit Push to Uhuru Peak and Descent
Around midnight you'll start a grueling 6 to 7 hour push toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, Africa's highest point. It's a tough climb, but reaching the summit is the payoff. After celebrating at the top, you'll descend for 7 to 8 hours back down to Horombo Hut where dinner and rest are waiting. This long day tests your endurance and gives you stories you'll be telling for years.

Descent to Marangu Gate and Return to Moshi
After breakfast you'll complete the final stretch with a 5 to 6 hour walk down through rainforest back to Marangu Gate. Your driver takes you to Moshi so you can rest and clean up. That evening there's a celebratory party at Nyange Farm with your fellow trekkers and mountain crew, where you'll share meals, stories around a bonfire, and plant a tree together as a permanent reminder of what you've accomplished.
