We had a family member whose flight arrived a day late, and they were extremely flexible and accommodating of this last-minute change. “Mr. X,” the driver who picked us up at the Cairo Airport was friendly, down-to-Earth, and made us feel at ease, as were all the subsequent drivers we were assigned. The itinerary was perfectly planned, allowing us to explore the best of Cairo, including the awe-inspiring Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and the formidable Egyptian Museum. Our meals were seamlessly planned into our daily itineraries, allowing us plenty of time to unwind and recharge between destinations. After visiting the Pyramids in the morning with our guide, Makram, we were taken to an outdoor buffet lunch with skewers and kabobs on individual charcoal grills. From there, we embarked on a breathtaking Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan, visiting incredible ancient temples and historic sites along the way. Each of our tour guides was well-informed and enthusiastic. We particularly enjoyed the Valley of the Kings, the hallowed burial grounds for many Egyptian pharaohs. Hossein, our guide for Edfu, the magnificent temple dedicated to the god, Horus, has a deep love for mythology and generously shared his infectious energy with us. His storytelling abilities are unparalleled. At Kom Ombo we had Essam for our tour guide; he is a fountain of knowledge and gave us an in-depth lecture on the hieroglyphics of this dual-deity temple. Once we returned to Cairo, we met up with Makram again, who did an outstanding job narrating to us the exhibits in the Egyptian Museum, as well as the illustrious Church of St. Sergius and Bacchus, which was built over a cave where Jesus, Mary, and Joseph once hid to escape the wrath of King Herod. The accommodations, transportation, and guided tours exceeded our expectations.
