The hotel would be 5-star and every time the boat was mentioned in the description, 5-star was mentioned too. We did not get this - our hotel (Sonesta) was near the airport, but not near anything else. This added about an hour in the car to each (already long) trip to see pyramids. temples etc. The rooms were OK - perhaps 4* - breakfast facilities were decidedly 3* or below. We asked if we could change hotel when we returned to Cairo but were told this was impossible. The boat used for the Nile cruise was perhaps 2-3* in quality level - big beds crammed into small cabins so there was not enough room to rotate ones foot to get back out of the room. We were told that 'all the rooms were the same'. Eventually we paid a fairly substantial extra charge to be put into a 'suite' room that might have been 4* except the view out of the window showed a broken and unpainted guard rail. Food on-board was a buffet - It was not really 'bad' but nothing that was available was 'good' - perhaps 3*. These were the two major complaints - more minor ones were the fact that the schedule for trips was only communicated by Whatsapp at the last minute - a message will arrive at 8pm stating that the pickup next morning was at 8am. There were three mornings in the row in our schedule where the pickup was at 4am. We had to cancel some things just to get enough sleep! The schedule needs to be re-planned to give people a holiday experience. The Dinner Cruise on the Nile could be removed. It consisted of being on a boat that drove in a circle along 200m of river between two bridges for a little over an hour. The last day in the Desert to include the Al Fayoum Oasis was truly magical and a nice way to end the trip. The Hotel Sonesta in Cairo was excellent, as was the Renaissance Boat on the Nile. We enjoyed the dinner and entertainment on the Nile while in Cairo and the Balloon ride. The historical sites were superb: Giza Plateau, the Saqqara, Dahshur and Memphis, Abu Simbel, Luxor and Karnac and Valley of the Kings. Actual cost for Museums/Sites was ~$210 per person and we averaged tipping at ~$40/day. It would have been nice to get some upfront guidance on the tipping, we depended on the internet and received conflicting information. One downside were the internal flights, it might be worth it to go with a more reliable airlines and increase the price. We lost about 8 hours due to flight delays combined between the two flights. Be prepared for early rises. Due to the aforementioned flight delay, we were up at 1:30 a.m. for a 2:00 a.m. departure to Abu Simbel, good news, we were there for the sunrise! One other detractor, it appears that all of the boats on the Nile are on the same time schedule, so meant for crowds at the sites and the locks.
