Itinerary
- Day 1
Entebbe
Your flight takes off early in the morning and lands in Entebbe by evening. This green suburb sits out on a peninsula in Lake Victoria, and it's where your adventure begins. After you clear customs, a driver picks you up and takes you to your guesthouse for the night so you can rest up before things get going.

Entebbe
Start before dawn for a boat trip into the Mabamba swamps on Lake Victoria's northern shore. You'll move quietly through reeds and papyrus in a wooden boat, and there's a 95% chance you'll see the shoebill (an incredible bird to spot). Marsh partridges, goliath herons, jacana leafhens, African teal, whistling ducks, rails and bee-eaters show up here too. Back at your guesthouse by late afternoon for the night.

Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park
The drive heads north through Kampala toward Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you'll go on foot with a game ranger to track these rare rhinos. From there you continue to Murchison Falls National Park to see the waterfalls in person. It's quite a day of driving, so you'll settle in at a lodge for the night.

- Day 4
Murchison Falls National Park
Morning takes you out on a game drive through the northern section of Murchison Falls, and you'll see Rothschild's giraffes, lions, and elephants gathered at the river to drink. In the afternoon, a boat trip on the Nile shows you hippos, elephants, and crocodiles as the water squeezes through a narrow 7-meter gap. You stay at the lodge again tonight.

- Day 5
Murchison Falls to Kibale Forest National Park
Start the morning viewing the falls from above, then drive toward Kibale Forest National Park along Lake Albert with views across to the DR Congo mountains on the horizon. The terrain gets hillier and greener as you go, with banana trees and tea plantations in terraces covering the slopes. On clearer days the Ruwenzori Mountains come into view. Your accommodation is a tented camp.

- Day 6
Kibale Forest National Park
Before sunrise you head into the dense cloud forest for chimpanzee tracking, and you have about a 95% chance of finding them. It's a strenuous jungle walk, but seeing these animals in their habitat makes it worthwhile. Later in the day you take a circular walk of about 5 km through Bigodi swamps on wooden footbridges, walking among papyrus to spot giant turacos and various bird species. Night back at the tented camp.

- Day 7
Kasenda - Queen Elizabeth National Park
Your journey starts with a scenic drive through the Kasenda region, where you'll pass turquoise and blue-black lakes scattered across hilly, fertile landscape. The road takes you through Kasese as the terrain gradually opens into savannah and bushland. You'll cross the equator at a marked monument, which makes for a good photo stop. After that, you'll enter Queen Elizabeth National Park, established back in 1952. The park centers around Lake Edward and Lake George, which are connected by the Kazinga Channel, stretching about 32 km long. In the afternoon, you'll head out on your first game drive to get a feel for the park and spot some wildlife. By evening, you'll settle into your safari lodge for the night.

- Day 8
Queen Elizabeth National Park
A morning game drive searches for lions, antelopes, elephants and possibly leopards in the park. Later you take a boat across the Kazinga Canal directly into the sunset, where hippos, buffalo and water birds gather on the banks. You lodge here again for the night.

- Day 9
Ishasha to Bwindi National Park
Early morning drive takes you south to the Ishasha sector where tree-climbing lions rest in the branches, and you might spot them from the vehicle if luck is on your side. You'll then continue into Bwindi National Park, home to the endangered mountain gorillas. A lodge is your base for the night.

- Day 10
Bwindi National Park
This day focuses on gorilla tracking in the mountain rainforest, which typically involves 4 to 6 hours of walking time. If tracking isn't for you, hiking through the forest itself is like walking through a fairytale. In the afternoon you visit a specialized clinic to learn about gorilla health and behavior from a gorilla doctor. You stay at the lodge another night.

Landmarks Bwindi National Park - Day 11
Bwindi to Virunga Mountains, Rwanda
The drive crosses through Uganda's terraced hills into Rwanda, known as the land of a thousand hills and considered Africa's showpiece. You head toward the majestic Virunga Mountains in the border region where DR Congo, Uganda and Rwanda meet. Mountain gorillas still inhabit this area thanks to conservation work like that of Dian Fossey. You'll stay at a lodge near the mountains.

- Day 12
Virunga Mountains, Rwanda
This is your second chance to track mountain gorillas on the slopes of the Rwandan volcanoes. You'll follow trails through dense jungle for 4 to 6 hours of walking to reach a gorilla group. Once you find them, you get about an hour to photograph and observe these gentle giants. If gorilla tracking isn't your thing, you can spend the day on optional excursions or leisure time instead. You lodge here again tonight.

Landmarks Virunga Mountains Dian Fossey's Grave - Day 13
Virunga to Kigali
Drive through the countryside to Kigali, Rwanda's capital. The city tour includes a visit to the Genocide Memorial, one of the most significant genocide memorials that honors those lost in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. After exploring the city, a driver takes you to the airport for your evening flight back to Germany.
